I used to groom horses for a living and we never used them, found that we got a better result using good old elbow grease.

When I used to groom for a living, my training stable in NE Ohio used a grooming vac. They were ok, but I personally found them noisy and cumbersome to use when grooming.

The one thing I absolutely loved about them was it converted to a blower and I used it a lot to whirlpool sore legs. I found myself using it more after shows than before for this reason alone.

We too tried them - noisy, not easy to manuver, and it took too long to get some horses used to them - good old-fashioned brushing, etc.. works better and is better for the horse as it stimulates the skin and makes for a shinier coat!!

Love them-wish I was set up to bae able to have one here.
You can get the extra long hose and have the vacuum well away from the horse.
You don't get to skip the elbow grease but after the manual grooming the vacuum gets everything else out.

I've used a vac. before, but it was just your garden variety ShopVac. Worked pretty well!! I groomed tonnes beforehand but it just seemed to help get that last bit out, especially in the spring...ugh!

Miss the vac a bunch!

After currying and brushing to loosen the dirt underneath, the vac was wonderful. I find they work great, the horses loved it after they were used to it. My Arabs really enjoyed it... and it only took one to two times to get used to it. It's like a massage to them. One gelding used to go to sleep. I've witnessed its use in a few other barns and the horses seemed to have the same reaction as mine did.
