Saddle correction pad. Have you tried?

As I have posted elsewhere, the gorgeous new saddle I bought for Phoebe doesn’t fit her correctly. Phoebe’s hindquarters are taller than her withers. The vet thinks she will outgrow this. So, in the meantime, I am thinking about a corrective saddle pad. Has anyone tried them and what do they think?

Are you talking about "The Corrector"? If so, I have heard good things about them - I don't know anyone personally that has one, but have read on other lists that people generally like them. You might look at horsetackreview.com

I have one!! I has done wonders for my two saddlebreds that have drops behind the withers. It has made it possible for me to use my favorite saddle. (I have tried 4 differentbrands of saddles and all dove down onto their withers)
They are both so much happier with it. Looking at it I don't honestly know how it works. It doesn't seem like it would....but somehow it does!

It is very expensive though. For me it was worth it to not have to try to find a saddle that would work for both of us. I don't know if I would have sprung for a horse that is probably going to outgrow the issue. Their are all different types of shim pads that are much more affordable that might work for a temporary situation. My guys are both mature and other than muscling are probably always going to have issues with saddle fit.

You can google it, it'll come right up. His website is a little messy, but you'll get the idea

If you think about it, how can any pad correct a downhill horse? If you elevate the front of the saddle, it will crawl up on the horse's shoulder blades. At this point in time you may wish to consider using a crupper, a strap that fits comfortably under the horses tail and is attached to the back of your saddle. A crupper is adjustable for a good fit.

Slim, I am with you, it doesn't make sense - he claims to be able to fix any fit problem - no question I am skeptical. Skeptical enough that he is only about 45 min from me and I haven't gone to see him, though have spoken to him. I have a wide horse and my saddle is too narrow, he claims the pad will fix that? But, I will say people that have them love them, not heard anything bad as of yet, so something must be working.

As I'm always wanting to learn, I'd like to see how a corrector pad can work on a narrow saddle and a wide horse.

Having just checked out the web site, and I see it uses shims. In theory this looks like it would work. But how often do saddle pads move, even a little. The shims would no longer be in the ideal position and could perhaps become painful for the horse. A top endurance rider makes her own saddlepads with pockets for special upholstery foam. The foam compresses yet offers some support. Her horses have done the 100 milers and no sore backs.

I understand the shim issue (actually have a horse with recesses behind his withers and I use a skito pad with shims), but I still don't get how you can made a too small shoe fit a fat foot with a different sock? But, I would love to go and visit and see what he says. His web site is nutty as fruit cake - but seems to have some interesting information.

i also was thinking it sounds too good to be true. i emailed him. he did write back and sounded honest. he told me i was welcome to go to his place and he would show me just how it worked. if i bought one, and brought my horse,he would help me with the shims. of course im too far away, or i would do this. go check it out. and of course we all want dedails on if this is the real deal.

Alliebath, Your phrase "too small shoe fit a fat foot with a different sock" paints a very clear picture.

Especially the part about his website being nutty as a fruit cake.

On the other hand, people do seem to like them.
