Billy Cook saddle

I recently purchased a BC saddle thanks to rivervu2. Can anyone tell me about the ones that were made in Greenville, TX? I've heard that the older saddles are made better and this is an older saddle but didn't know if it was one of the better ones. It's a beautiful dark oil color and has beautiful acorn and maple leaf tooling but I'm afraid it's too big for Spatz. It was advertised as 16 inch but it is actually 17 1/2 or 18 inches which makes it a long saddle for short backed arab. I may have to resell it so I wanted to know a little more about the saddle. Any help/info would be greatly appprecated.

Billy Cooks have been made in Greenville Texas by the Longhorn Saddle Company for a Long Time, they are now called Simco-Longhorn.

About 5-7 years ago Billy Cook went back to making Saddle in Oklahoma, he had quit for many years after working this Longhorn.

I might be a few years off, so much merger, buy-outs and things going on in the Saddle Business it is sometimes hard to remember who bought who, etc.

Many people say the older TX made Saddles are better and the OK made ones are better.

They are both good, as with any brand some models are better than others.

As with many things, Some Saddle made 15 years ago are better than the ones made today. Some of it has to do with labor, some production and some is due to the restrictions on producing Good Leather.

It is a western saddle with wonderful tooling, acorns and maple leaves. I apologize for not responding sooner but I never saw responses. I'll try to attach pics. The last pic is of the bucking strap, it, too, has extensive tooling and you have a place to put the excess strap so it doesn't flap around. The small nameplate on the seat at the base of the pommel is missing. Saddle is in good condition. Here are the pics...
