Billy Cook saddle

hello everyone,
Last month, my husband and I bought a used BC saddle. The sales girl told us we should be able to google the id no. and we'd get an idea of when it was made. well...we tried many differant sites, and no luck. Wondering if anyone out there knows when this saddle may have been made etc.

The no. reads : 1066.

The silver pie crust cantle came into being in the late (if I recall correctly) 70's. The hoof pick holder became popular about that time, maybe closer to the early 80's.

You may be able to call the actual saddle manufacturer and they may be able to tell you based on that number
best of luck !

I have a BC almost identical to this saddle. The only difference is mine doesn't have the hoof pick case. I looked at the pics and had to do a double take at it. I would also be interested when it was made.

We've had a couple of Billy Cooks over the years but I think they said they were made in Sulfer, OK. If I remember right, the Greenville, TN ones were from a second place that manufactured them.
Sorry, that's no help and I'm not sure that I even have it right.

The first BC's were in Greenville till there was trouble with the IRS and BC ended up in jail. If I remember right the Greenville era ended about 81 after that his maker saddles were from Sulfer OK. ONLY BC can have maker on the saddle. The knockoff's from Longhorn say Billy Cook Saddlery Greenville TX
The actual Billy Cooks from either Greenville or Sulfer will say Billy Cook Maker.

A bone of contention with me is having the name on the latigo keeper which is easily switched to another saddle. 1066 would be a model number.

But BC Maker saddles are also on the back of the cantle. Or at least the ones I have seen are as well as my own Cowboy Tack Saddle.
