I got the straight style - not roper. No real reason except the roper seemed a bit overkill on my TWH's narrow body

I was hoping to get the smart cinch type because my latigo is leather and it's a PITA to get cinched up.... the leather grabs itself and doesn't want to pull snug, but I think the smart cinch will take care of that problem....

Issue being, I have not found any that are the alpaca in the smart cinch style.... If you know where I can find one, I'd be much appreciative!
coolhorse.com also sells cinch guards. Ditto the baby powder on the latigo to ease the "catch" while tightening.

I'm still wondering why Slim made the statements about roper style cinches. I'm interested in hearing the reasoning behind it as I do use one but maybe there's a good reason not to?

I'm curious about slim's statement as well...though I'll keep using my roper style cinches reguardless... A) because we do rope, and B) because they hold my barrel saddle where it should be, without having to over tighten.

My mare can't breathe well (which is important in high speed events) if I tighten her cinch too much. I've found that I can leave her saddle one or two holes looser with a mohair roper cinch than with anything else I've tried and still keep the saddle securely in the middle of her back. This allows her to have more room to expand her girth and get her breath, so she's not huffing and puffing at the end of a 15 second sprint.
