Theraputic Riding

My friend just started a therapeutic riding program. I went out earlier this week to check it out and help her with somethings.. Had a great time with the kids!!! We did egg and spoon and threw bean bags and rings.. along with their regular exercises.

{Due to privacy and security issue the photos have been removed}

However, we do hope that everyone will continue in discussion and share any experience with such a worthwhile program.

What a wonderful thing to do. I think that theraputic riding is so great and people really benifit from it. The ribbons were a really sweet touch!

That is GREAT! Brought tears of joy to my eyes for those kids.

I always dreamed of starting a theraputic riding facility.

But since someone has gotten hurt on my property by one of my horses, I have shyed away from the idea.

I have been looking up facilities on the internet near me, so that i can at least volunteer my time.

My nephew has done the therapeutic riding for years with the 'We Can Ride' organization in Minnesota. It was a fabulous experience for him. Great for his trunk muscles and balance. He has cerebral palsy. I went with him to his class one day and it was an inspiration to me and very touching. The kids were so excited to be there. Some children in wheel chairs have not felt the sensation of walking until they rode a horse.
I would love to volunteer there someday.

There is a girl that wears braces on her legs and has rods in her back. She gets around mostly in a wheelchair.she can walk but I think it is very hard for her and she cannot stand up straight. She rode the horse for almost and hour.. very straight and tall and happy as can be!!!

I want so badly to start a hippotherapy program! That is a long long long term goal though, lots of school ahead before I can get anywhere close. And I am not getting any younger!

They are great programs though and the kids really touch your heart.

It's great that you got to participate in the program and help out. I've heard wonderful stories from people who have been part of those types of programs.

I see the pics were removed from this thread for privacy reasons but if you have permission to use pics of something like this can you?

reason I ask is I have helped out with theraputic riding in the past and I was thinking of doing a thread with pics but want to be able to add pics.

Also good job going and helping out calicocalgirl. It always bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart to see the smiles the kids get especially when you get certain reactions from a generally unresponsive child, young adult, or adult

My friend has written release for photos when they sign up for the class. I dont have permission myself so when the mods mentioned it, I figured it was safer to remove them.
