Signed up for first show-It's tomarrow!!

I registered to show Freedom in a BLM Mustang Expo/Show. I signed up for halter and yearling trail. For this kind of show do you think I need a show halter or just a nice nylon one? Do I use a leather show lead or just a new cotton/nylon one? I figure for her first show and mine this one would be fun.

Ahh yes..

Its always the best rule of thumb to use leather halters and leads! Never use a nylon halter for Halter shows!

As for how dessy of a halter.. With many of the other breed societies, AQHA, APHA, and so on, lots of silver and shine! With the BLM's shows, I am not sure! If you go to the Mantel Ranch website, and drop an email to Steve Mantel, he is pretty informative and may be able to point you in the right direction.

I hope this helps! Good luck on your showing!

Personally, I would at least try to get a nice leather halter, even if it didn't have bling on it. Be sure you and she are both cleaned up and shiney, and definitely practice the standing, squaring up, etc - the standing is the hardest part especially if it's her first show! If you have the chance, hauling her to a couple shows just to get used to the atmosphere may not be a bad idea even if you have no intention of doing anything other than leading her around a little.

I am not familiar with BLM shows, but I bet a nice leather and halter lead would look great.

If they are like the ranch horse shows, no silver - just a nice clean horse and a nice leather halter and lead..

I'd say you would def want to get a leather halter and lead but I wouldn't think the silver was a must have. It's not around here except in the large shows!

Good luck and have fun!

The show is in October and I don't know of any others that I can haul her to to practice. We are working on squaring up and standing. She is really good at the standing part. Know to find a leather halter and lead.

It can be hard to find others to practice with, as well as a "show ring" environment. I use friends who come by and visit as my "guest" judges, and have them take the role of judge and help out in this area! Strange people approaching your horse can be a little too stimulating for them, so its desensatizing them as closely as possible to getting them to relax with someone new being in their space and touching them!

That will work perfect! If your wanting to practice, just haul her anywhere and treat it like a show ring, I used to haul my mare to the local horse park to do dressage tests, just so it was somewhere different. Good luck in October!

Hmmm, may see about using the local round up club arena.

Well the show is this weekend. They don't require a leather halter and actually encourage using a nice nylon one. This is just a fun show to try to encourage people to adopt. I am so excited. I can't wait to see how Freedom does with all the new sights and sounds and wthout her buddy. I will take tons of pics.
