Our First Event- Update... PICS

Hello all... Sab and I's first 3 day event starts tomorrow... we are hauling out tonight...
and I am getting the jitters!!! 4 hours of work left till i get to go pack his stuff(I have already packed my stuff, it is sitting inmy car outside). I knew you guys would understand my need to post. I am confined to my office desl & computer while my brain is raking through the million items i need to bring, and squish into my car.
We are doing entry(2'7 :P ) so it sholdnt be too hard... just having a moment...
any words of encouragement to get us through the event?
how about words of encouragement to get me through the next 4 hours?

Jitters are normal. Breathe. Use what you know works with Sab. Be confident, you know you two can do it. Remember that everybody else has the jitters too, not just you! Good luck!

Breath - relax - trust yourself - trust your horse - and have a good time..

Picture everyone else riding in their underwear. If it works for public speaking it surely will work for showing horses.

You'll do great! Remember - preparation is the hard part. The competiton? That's easy.

Are you at Alhambra? It will be awesome.
I wish I looked as secure as you over fences, you have such a good lower leg!
You'll do great, half of our barn is up there too.
I'm too chicken still, we can't even hack down the road alone yet.
Good luck, you and your beautiful boy will be wonderful (and think of all the riders in their underwear!!)

Albertagirl= Who is your neighbour?
ruffian- you are so sweet thanks. Which barn?

Okay, so it went alot better than I expected. We did Entry(80cm, 2'7), I was in first after dressage, tied with another girl on a grey arab.
Then cross country... my biggest fear(my horse has gone out and done xc 3 times previous and is far from confident). It was more of a challenge holding him back from flat out crazy gallop than it was to get him over the fences. he jumped everything i properly pointed him at. coming down the hill to the last fence and the finish it looked like we were going to even make time. Little did I know I had held my breath for about 2 minutes and was feeling like i was going to die up there... so i just point him at the last jump and stop riding... he does a wonderful 20 m circle.. so there is 20 faults... plus 2.8 time faults... GAH!!
and of course, double clear stadium.

Either way, I am SUPER proud of him, he was SO great.
Although does anyone have any suggestions on learning to breath while riding?

I love that pic, he looks so focused and careful.
He's doing the green thing and giving it lots of clearance, but that's good
I ride at Alborak, Sandra Donelly was the top Canadian on the eventing team, she and homebred Buenos Aires had a great xcountry!

As for the breathing, if you sing, or count out loud you will br forced to breathe. Counting is esp good as it also helps you find your rythym and gives you something else to focus on.

Thanks . I dont know if he will ever outgrow the lots of clearance thing. He is very careful, and if he knocks a rail ever he jumps at least 2' higher over the next 10 jumps. Noises really scare him... as does anything that remotely changes his balance(knocking rails, feet slipping)... although for that to be one of his only arab traits, I am okay with over clearing fences!

Okay! Sandra is SO nice. I met her years ago at my first ever event. I was like 14 and my instructor plopped me and another student down at her table at the competitor dinner because their table was full. Super nice lady
