(more show pics added) Still In Shock..yesterday's Show

as most of you know by now i had my first show in 30 years yesterday..i had posted sooo many questions and concerns on many many posts ( does this bridle look stupid..do judges look unfavorably at overweight riders... am i crazy.... solved my tack problem..ditched the horse) an many more posts about how to show etc...i was planning to show my 6 yr old qh cross in halter and i had many questions about show outfits for me and my horse and i was worried since she was grade and had that long mane her daddy wouldnt let me cut, and i dont know how to braid or band, i thought we didnt stand a chance of placing but just wanted to go to a show just for fun...i thought it was a local fun show...but eventhough it was in a small town i found out it was a pretty big show and this was the 51st year for this show...when i registered i was the 305th horse...i dont know how many were there but those folks in this area are SERIOUS about horse showing...
well when i got Mocha out of the trailer she freaked..shes always been on the farm and never around other strange horses and she dragged me all over the show grounds...i couldnt get her into the ring and when i finally got her to go in she pushed and pulled me all over the place..fortunately the judge was looking at the horses that came in first and i think she missed all of Mocha's antics... i had to circle her over and over just to slow her down and making her stand still was nearly impossible, so i snapped her leadchain over her nose and gave her a sharp correction and she calmed right down and stood still... i found out she was competing against horses that had always placed first in halter and even an undefeated halter horse that was a grand champion last season..there were 9 other horses in our class....NOW THE SHOCKER....when the announcer called the first place winner they called MY number..i didnt move because i didnt think it could possibly be right, then they called her name and mine ....now the bad news ..i left the cord for my digtal camera at the farm so no pictures except one that i scanned but trust me i have lots of pics coming when i go back next week and get my cord and get them loaded....
now for the pic...dont mind my face i was literally bawling in this pic!

Oh, you can bet the judge saw every bit of her freaking, and that you got her attention, trust and control despite the fact that she was probably near near panic and bursting with excitment - that's why you won!

Yeah, even at the fun shows the NHS puts on, the competition is pretty serious in alot of the classes.

ok i scaned another pic of about half of our class...couldnt get all the horses in the shot...
i also showed my old horse peppy in a walk jog class but we didnt place because he was as excited as mocha was and he wouldnt slow his walk and keep his nose out...but he did pretty well for his first time out and i had fun...Oh and another small surprise..i thought i had only won a ribbon but there was a small envelope stapled to the ribbon with a 10 dollar bill in it that didnt find until almost the end of the show...BOY we had a wonderful time yesterday
and one of the best parts was i had about 10 people come up to me and tell me that peppy was absolutely BEAUTIFUL.. he was very popular there!

I was so excited to read your post! I'm so happy for you. Even if you didn't bring home a ribbon, what a terrific accomplishment to get back into the ring after 30 years. Congrats!

We did show, we did most of the jumping classes in the morning then hung out for awhile..

I saw her being goofy because I remember thinking how pretty she was and how she didn't want to enter the ring lol. My mare used to act like that all the time, darn mares! The welsh pony got 2nd, the black and white paint got third, and the really pretty grey got fourth.. after that its a blank.. lol.
