First HT horse show is a GO!

We have gotten the okay to run a show, of course there are a few rules and guidlines everyone is going to need to follow... So here's a list of how we are going to start.

OUR FIRST SHOW WILL BE RANCH HORSE HALTER.
Show bill: Ranch horse halter
- Open to any breed
- Horse should have the "look" of a working ranch horse. ie) substance, strong, solid, good minded, built for the long haul with the ability to work with it's handler through long hard days until the job is done.
- Must submit atleast 2 photos of your horse. 1 from a straight on side view, and one other of your choice.
- Horse must have side view shot in a plain or rope halter (no silver show halters please)
- Horse needs to be clean and neat looking (no non-groomed or "pasture" shots of your horse please)

How to judge horse
-Look at the horse. Evaluate his/her balance and how the parts join together. Pay attention to the horse's topline, back, shoulder, neck, hip and heartgirth to judge thier balance. Compare the horse against established ranch horse breeding standards to determine if thier total body alignment conforms to breeding standards
-Evaluate how well the horse performs his intended function or his "structure and travel." Lower the horse's score if his form deviates from accepted norms. Problems in form affect the horse's ability to do what he was bred to do.
-Judge the quality and quantity of muscle throughout the horse's body. Look for muscle volume in the chest, shoulder, loin, stifle and gaskin. Give a high mark to muscle that is long, smooth and deep.
-Determine the quality of the horse by judging her coat, skin, feet and bone structure. A smooth, short coat, well-proportioned head and medium-sized feet are some of the characteristics of a quality horse
-Evaluate a horse's sex characteristic by looking at her head. A female horse has smaller features than the more masculine stallions and geldings
- Another words, try to pick the best horse for the job. Which would you want as your partner on a working ranch?

Rules:
- Vote on this thread only. NO comments until after the show please.
-Owners of the animals will not be relased until after the show to make it fair for everyone. If you know who owns an animal in the show, please keep it private until after the show.
-No asking people to vote for your horse, see rule above.
- Please keep who you voted for private as well until after the show. We really want everyone to have an equal opportunity here.

And finally, as always, please follow the "golden rule" if you have nothing nice to add, say nothing at all. But feel free to vote as you see fit.

Poll will start on Monday, and will allow voting until friday. Winners will then be announced.

There will be 1st, and 2nd place winnings as well as an honnorable mention.

Please submit photos to HThorseshow@gmail.com

*NOTE* All photos submitted will only be used for the HT horse show and nothing else. They will NOT be shared anywhere else

If you send in a photo that does not meet the criteria above, you will be contacted so you know to try again

Good luck everyone, and can't wait to see your beautiful ranch horses!

Here is an example of the photo we are looking for...

Notice, the horse is clean, wearing a "normal" halter, ect.

Just want to clear up... If you have any questions, you can post in THIS thread, just not in the actual "show" threads

This is a great idea! If you get enough entries will you split it into mares, geldings, and stallions?

May do that later on, at this point, the first show will be kind of a "test" run. So we will see how it goes, how many people submit pics, ect. before splittign it up more

ANOTHER NOTE: The horse in the above picture is just and EXAMPLE and is not one to vote on

Are yearlings excepted even though they don't technically ride yet but have the build and disposition?

For this show yes. Anything that either is, or will be an outstanding example of what a ranch horse should be

I'm hoping later on to split it into different category's. But for now, we will keep everyone together to keep it simple until all the "kinks" are out.

Remember everyone, this is just for fun, so let's keep it that way!

Okay I hate to be a worry wart, but what about clipping? Do you want the horse's muzzle/ears clipped or natural??

Thank you, and I am planning on a "mini" show later on, as well as a gaited, endurance horse, speed horse, ect. as long as this show goes well. So don't fret... I will try my best to include everyone.

No, the horse does not need to be clipped, just clean (no mud ball pics please). Natural is fine, if your horse already happens to be clipped, that is fine as well.

One shot straight from the side (with no tack, a confo. shot) and another pic of your choice.

You can send the information on the horse to Cascy - she will then post the photo as an anynomous horse - and if you win, then she has all the information from you to include when she makes that announcement..
