Have I got a story for you guys!!...

So yesterday we took Hope to her second show of the season. You may recall that she did so well in her last show, that we bumped her up to the next highest tests. I was reading again...but we were lucky enough to have a friend there who videod the first test...which was Training Level Test 3 (Hope did tests 3 and 4). From my reader's vantage point, I thought she did better in 3 than in 4, but the judge scored her higher in 4! Go figure. Anyway...we didnt win this time but she did quite well. Over 60 in both, and just under 65 in test 4. We lost to this woman who rode two horses in the same test...and they were both very experienced horses.. and we only lost by a couple of points (not that I'm a sore loser or anything LOL). But like I said, once again, I'm delighted with Hope and Dennis. We see what we have to work on for the next time. Here are the videos...from top to bottom. That's me on the sidelines reading the test. This is the first test...the one we scored lower on. No vids of the second test.

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOgehroLcDI

2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEjQVKzIwmE

3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I91kDIAj9Jc

4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9qSgCJXR64

Okay...so fresh from our success..and we're driving home, debriefing...and we're on the freeway and someone yells at us that our tire is flat. So we pull off at the next exit and pull off the road...and, yeah...one of our tires is flat...BUT that's because the one next to it is TOTALLY SHREDDED!!!!
Thank goodness that good samaritan told us when she did...cause I think the other tire would have gone and we'd have toppled over.

Okay...so D gets the spare tire...and he puts it on and the VALVE STEM BREAKS and all the air goes out of the tire!!!

So there we sit...I'm holding Hope, who for some reason is being magnificently well behaved...and we have no spare tire...and our AAA doesn't cover the trailer. So...we call the guy who feeds and cleans for us...AND HE TELLS US HE'S IN LAS VEGAS!! So NOW what do we do???

The guy calls his dad...who literally drove AN HOUR to come and rescue us. He brought some valve stems, he had a pump to fill up the tire, and they put it on. By the way...we didn't even have a stitch of cash on us either! This was one of those moments when you realize how unprepared you are and what all needs to be done before the next trip!!!

So...we were on the side of the road for about two hours...I'm sitting in the car holding Hope...with the hay bag hanging from the passenger door and she's just munching away the entire time! It was amazing. I, of course, was fit to be tied! LOL

So...what should we get as a gift for this guy who came and rescued us? (we didn't even have cash to pay for his gas!!)

OH MY GOSH!!! thank god the person told you and you were able to catch it quickly, that is so scary!
Isn't it amazing how well behaved the horses can be when they know you are about a second away from a mental breakdown?

I dont know the person, so maybe take him out for dinner... is he a farmer? Im sure some help around the farm would be a wonderful gift...

It is reassuring to hear that there are folks that still are good Samaritians. The other day we noticed a car on the bypass in town as my brother was taking me to work, when he returns it is still there and the lady has a flat,he tells her he will change it and she can sit in my car or stay outside her car. Anyways he gets it changed and her spouse comes up,he offers my brother $20 and my brother says no -put it in offering plate at church. The guy ask him if he would like a drink,my brother says yes and he goes to convenience store and guy buys him a pop. Maybe a gift card to restaurant or a local store. Glad that show went well and that Hope was so well behaved on way back.

We don't have "farms" in our neck of the woods! LOL But I am thinking a gift certificate for dinner out, or a cheesecake (LOL), or something like that!

Your brother is a nice man too! We were across the street and a few hundred feet away from this house with horses...and I was thinking that if worse came to worse, I'd walk Hope over there to park her while we did whatever we needed to do.

The gift card idea is what I'm thinking too.

We have had valve stems go bad, amazing stuff is made in China.
Videos look great glad you had a good day at the show and Hope was a real lady waiting for you to get her home.
I would do a gift card at a service station so he could buy gas or repairs.

Wow, Hope is really looking GREAt...coming along well Congrats on the good show!

And as for the tire.........now THERE is a great reason to drink HAHAHAHHAHAHA Glad it all worked out for you though!

I second the gift cert to a restaurant or something. A lot of the time people will turn down money and won't accept your 'gift', but its hard to turn down somethign thats already paid for haha. Or buy him a gas card or something too

Glad that everything did work out.. but how scary to think that you came that close to disaster..

Hope was a good girl. And this was after she was off for 10 days due to her biopsy. So she only had like 5 days of training for these two tests. I was very proud of her and Dennis. We still have lots to work on...but STILL!!

Ooooh I have been in that gawd-awful predicament before too! 5 hours on the side of the road in the August heat! Except it was my truck that broke down and didn't have a backup truck with a gooseneck hitch. My horse was an angel too, I think he knew one more thing might send Mom over the deep end!

I am glad your horse did so well in the tests...she is a beauty! And on the side of the road!

What would we ever do without our Good Samaritans?

Thanks all...I'm finally feeling less stressed about it all today. Funny how it takes so long to come down from an ordeal like that.

And I'm trying NOT to let that be the thing I remember about the show. I want to remember how well Hope did and how well she behaved on the side of the road.

Congrats on doing so well at the show.

NOW, cancel your stupid AAA and go to USRider.org and join them. They are a AAA for those who tow horses or ANY trailer. And, I have to say, just last week we blew a tire to shreds on the trailer. They were there (in the middle of nowhere) in 45 minutes to take care of us. We made it home and were already on our way to town and US Rider was callling us back to make sure we and the horses were okay and had been taken care of correctly. Then 3 days later I get a letter in the mail asking if everything was done to my satisfaction!

Believe me, it will take a big worry off of you if you join USRider. They will make sure you AND your horses are safe or taken to a safe place. They will not leave your horses or trailer stranded on the side of the road. Anyways I have nothing bad to say about US Rider.

Pasopony...I never heard of that. Do they cover cars also? Or just the truck and trailer?

They cover ANYTHING you are in as long as you have your ID number. Doesn't even have to be truck/trailer or your vehicle. They'll come start you up, change a tire, unlock you, everything that AAA does (except plan trips) but includes the TRAILER too. Never be stuck with your horses again!

We gave our savior his dinner gift certificate yesterday! He was like "you didn't have to do this..."

What an experience. Thankfully you were warned about the tire before something terrible happened. Glad Hope was such a good girl.
