What is the world is a ROM?

I keep hearing about ROM's in the "show" world but what is it? All that keeps popping in my head is "range of motion" (recently had a back injury w/ phys therapy- so that is where i get it), but someone please explain this to me??

Register Of Merit

I think that you have to receive a certain number of points before a show horse attains one. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I can speak for the APHA rules, not sure if its the same in every breed.

A "ROM" aka Register of Merit is a certificate your HORSE earns after accumulating 10 National Points in any class. Every 3 horses = 1 National Point.

Example- If you are in a class with 12 horses. That = 4 National Points.

4 for 1st place
3 for 2nd
2 for 3rd
1 for 4th.

Example- If you are in a class with 11 horses, then is 3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd. Class with 2 horses = no points.

"ROM"'s are a good selling point on a horse. Like I said, its points for the HORSE not the rider in that class.
