Working Up the Nerve.....*Update*

So I was over there feeling sorry for myself.... and figured the only way to get out there...is to get out there!!!!

Anyhow...I have no clue what I might be getting myself into....but the Alabama Open Horsemanship has a show on Aug 29th of this year.

Maybe I should give it a whirl????

I have no clue what to show in....maybe halter???? Some walk, trot, canter???

I would really like to try some kind of games....but not sure where to look.

Guess I need to call around and find out what shows are in the area. Who ever I call for that???

So what do you think??? Think she might do o.k.???

Her mane is gone in the middle though...that is the only bad thing.

But hey....if it is for fun!!!

The most important thing is to have fun!! Call the show secretary to find out what classes they offer and pick a few that you might want to try. I am not sure who to ask regarding a few local shows -- is there a pony club, 4-H or local riding/saddle club or barn that might put on a few schooling shows that you could try.
I am thinking of taking the plunge next year and entering my TWH in to the regional show -- am thinking that I must be incredibly crazy or have few screws loose because I haven't shown since I was in my 20's and that's been quite a few years.
As for the mane -- it will eventually grow back -- mine had a huge rub spot on his mane when I got him from the feeder previousl owners were using. Try MTG on it . .. . .

Why go for it!!!! I bet you would do great!

Guess no time is better than the present!

Yeah....she keeps sticking her head through the fence...and pulling out her mane.

Just go out there and have fun.

When I first started showing dodger OMG he spooked at everything

was all over the place but we had fun then once he realized what he was suppose to be doing he turned out to be a good show horse.

First time we ran barrels he stopped short and spooked off I came.

Then we worked on it at home I won the FVS buckle on Dodger for barrels.

I have shown him western pleasure, team penning was a real hoot on him cause he was scared to death of the cows

I have shown in in poles, barrels, team penning, english never do that again although he was real good at it..

Most important thing is to make sure you have fun and your horse is having fun too

Thats a really cute mare. I really like her face. It reminds me of my Fillie Brooke's face. Brooke is also black and white, bu shes an appy. lol

I'd say go for it. You never know how it's gonna go till you try it. I just started showing last year. I was soooooooo nervous, but once I got out there I relized how fun it really was!

I say, go and try whatever your little heart desires!

Do you have saddle clubs in your area that put on Playdays or gymkhanas? Do you have any Cowboy Churches? They are big around here for Playdays....

We show with the East Alabama Horseman's Association which is a member club of the AOHA. We have to show 8 times in our local association to qualify to show at the AOHA show in August, so I don't know if you could show this year or not.

It is tons of fun and there is association that holds some shows in your area. If you go to www.showaoha.org, there is a list of clubs that feed into the Alabama Open Association. We really enjoy it. If I can help you, let me know. Our association (EAHA) has a show the next two Saturdays so come on over and join us!

Good for you! She is a beautiful mare, the mane will grow back out, my sweet Remy did the same thing, pulled his out stealing hay from a cattle feeder (before I got him), and his came back, it was almost completely grown out when I lost him.

"Hello loser ya don't show" ....but those colours would look soooooooo good on Tia . So it looks as though next show I'll take her in a walk/trot class and pray to God I don't DIE

Well...I just got off the phone with our local Saddle Club President...and he was just as country as they come. Thank goodness.

They sound so nice....

He told me they were small...just starting out...and that they have everything from pole bending to barrel racing to halter...to hunt seat.

I told him that Sugar was a little nervous...as so would I be...and he told me not to worry...that there was one lady who thought her stuff didn't stink......and her horse was the greatest...but it had to wear ear plugs!!!!

I am excited!

We are going to watch this weekend!!!!

Oh YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited for you...
I love saddle club! That is where I am showing now until I get a trailer so I can actually start riding at rodeos...in the meantime I have been bumming off people to haul my horse with theirs for the past three years...ha. Of course I pay them gas money and some extra money as a thank you

But anyway (sorry to ramble), saddle club is a wonderful place and its all about the kids and such...it's just wonderful.
And a ton of fun..and no one is THAT good out there usually so you don't really have to worry about doing great at your first show.
GOOD LUCK!
Keep us posted

Um...yeah...that is what I told him. I was like..."I hope it is not a very big show....because I have never shown before and as little of people I will look like an idiot in front of...the better!"
