I know that you can show mules in about any event. I do not know if they can show right along beside the horses. I do know that I really like the looks of that mule its one of the prettiest ones that I have seen.

Last year at the county fair open show a couple kids brought some really nice nice mules in and beat everyone else to a pulp in everything from showmanship to Western Pleasure and every class in between, then turned around and took those same mules and placed in the races. This isn't some rinky dinky show either. We got some real tough show every weekend people come to this show. So I'd have to say yeah it can be done.

Went to The Mane Event in Red Deer this spring and they had some mules do a breed demonstration -- Wow is all I can say. There were 3 -- 1 was the typical brown coloured mule that you see all the time. The brown mule was doing a western demonstration and doing quite well -- had a great sliding stop. The second was sort of a red dun colour and the girl was riding him english and jumping him. Nice movement as well. The third was pony sized (I think - kinda small compared to the other 2) and she was just walking him around. I was impressed. I would say go for it. He's a cutie!!

Another club in our local 4-h has a few kids with mules and they show right along side the horses. They are very calm and listen well.

I know at a local show near me, there are 2 mules that show western pleasure and halter, and they actually pin most of the time. I think they are judged just the same in their discipline as any other horse, as long as they fit their discipline. I wish I had gotten pics of them the last time I went.

One of our local Pony Clubbers shows a mule, and does very well.

While taking the pictures from the stands I did note some disparaging remarks from some of the spectators regarding the use of a mule in an otherwise "horse" show, so be prepared. Close-minded people annoy me.

some venues will not allow mules to compete in a Horse Show-some will. you may want to check out the places in your area first.
you can also show in ADMS sancitoned events.
I love a good saddle mule..problem is finding a GOOD one that is not a fortune. good luck on your hunt.

I have seen Mules beat the heck out of horses in the extreme trail competions. I mean flat beat them all around.

i showed a mule once...it was weird the way it happened
i had a bratty cousin who had a very pretty black and white tobiano pony..she was always bragging about how pretty she was and how she had been bred to a a beautiful solid black stud nearby and how beeeaaauuutifffuuulll the foal would be, well our male teenage cousins were both pranksters and while my cousin was at school they took her precious mare down to their barn and bred her to their jack, named blackjack (original i know) she didnt know until that little guy was born...gorgeous little mule solid black with high white stockings and a big star..sooo cute ..i halter broke him and entered him in a class at a nearby show for pony foals 6 months and under and we got a blue ribbon (unfortunately we were the only pony foals that had shown up that day) but the judge was so funny, he just just smiled and shook his head and the announcer was hilarious he said, "its a ...welll .... ummm...its a .... well whatever it is pin the blue on him!"

Good Luck with him if you decide to get him. I think it's great when the mules surprise people by doing well at the shows. They can do anything a horse can. often times better!

When I first started showing I got my hiney kicked by a mule....so did everybody else that day. That old mule was the ugliest thing I've ever seen but he loved his old man and did everything he was asked and gave 200% when he did it. They showed in all the riding events English , Western, Games, Harness class, Jumping I think he even did dressage. Tom Thumb was that mules name and people hated it when he showed up because there was no beating him. When his owner died the mule when to his son and continued to win. That was well over 20 years ago and people still remember him.

Get the mule
