miniatures in open local shows

Well, I went ahead and followed some advice from you all on showing my minis in the open local shows around here. I called the heads of the clubs that offer the shows and was told basically to, "bring it on". So, I will be showing the minis this summer in halter classes. I'm hoping that I can bring some interest, some new members, and some more spectators so that the clubs will be willing to add more classes specifically for the miniatures, like driving, jumping, and liberty.

My question is this, does anyone have any experience showing minis at open shows? I know that AQHA and APHA will award points only if the show is approved by the association. I'm wondering if minis are the same way? Yep, I have a lot of confidence in my little ones...they are definitely going to win!

I don't know about the registry at all, but one local show used to have a driving class that was almost always done with minis. Sadly, there were usually only one or two entrants (if there were any - I think the biggest class I saw was 3), so they are removing the classes. Personally, I wish they would keep them since there are so few places for people to compete with that around here, but the shows are already so long, and there are other more popular classes to add in their stead.

Don't know about the associations but we see lots of them in open shows up here (MN) We see them in halter and driving with adults and lots of them in both pleasure and game classes in the pony and pewee divisions (under 8 for rider). It's a blast to watch their short little legs tear around the poles and barrels!
