Ranch Youth Rodeo

I love to go to rodeos. I especially like to watch the Barrel Races. The Calf Scramble, and Mutton Busting for kids is always fun to watch.
Recently there was a Ranch Youth Rodeo at our local Expo Center. Never before saw anything like it. Dozens of little kids decked out in boots, chaps and hats. These were not teens, but toddlers.
I did not stay for all of the events. In the one I saw, teams of three would inter a small ring where there was a goat tied to a rope. One of the children would lie down on the goat and hold it still, another would lope a rope around the goat’s neck, and the third would touch the side of the goat with a tiny branding iron. It all was timed.
The kids and goat would get tied together with the rope, and the judge would have to stepped in and untangle them. It was very cute.

Rebecca, Gerald and I go to as many rodeos as our schedules allow. I'll post a couple that I took from this summer. And yes, Mutton Busting is a scream!
Do NOT know what was going on here! Looks odd though

Juuuust before...

Yup...

It didn't work out very well for the cowboy, the calf refused to cooperate

Mutton busting!

There was a show earlier that day, it was SO much fun, here is a horse that caught my eye

And this little girl was a champ, her horse was rearing and trying to make a scene but she was as cool as a cucumber.

I've been to several of these and I really
enjoy seeing the little ones doing their
events.

I really like the looks of that buckskin.

I guess buckskin is the hottest color right now
and the most expensive.

Why do I always like the highest priced horses?

Rodeo Pictures

I loved the pictures Joanie. Great action shots.
That guy in the red shirt looks like he is unhappy over his score.
The last Mutton Busting I saw, a little girl won second, and she was in a skirt!

We both like to go to rodeos. Rick especially likes the Bull Riding.

I found out later that the Youth Ranch Rodeo I mentioned was actually a Buckle Series. There is another Show scheduled in December. I should have time to go.

Our local Sorting Practice will be closing for the season around the end of this month. And most of the Penning Associations will not have another Show until New Years.

Things really slow down this time of year. There is nowhere to practice, nowhere to pen. And we cannot ride in the woods because it is hunting season.

I don't know, maybe because you know quality when you see it?

I'm not sure about the quality aspect but the price
seems to go up with the cuteness level!

Well, then I ought to be in luck, because I like my horses old, slow and low!
