Help Help!! Need Cover up tips!

Ok, Ya'll have seen pics of my yellow dun mare Dusty. She has black legs. Well, today I was loading her into the trailer. I got her tied in and before I could get out to close the door, she half reared and broke the tie holding her in. When it broke, the slack went out and she slipped backwards and fell out of the trailer onto her bum. In the process, she scraped up both hind legs. Nothing serious, it just wore the hair off and made what looks like rope burn. Here is my dilema... I have a show SATURDAY!! This won't heal by then, and I need to know if there is anything safe and black that I could put over these wounds. If she was white this would be no prob cause baby powder works great...So if anyone has a suggestion. Pllleassseee feel free to post. Thanks Ya'll

I had a friend with a buckskin gelding who put hoof black on his various scars, scabs and white spots. That may be a bit extreme so... maybe shoe polish?

Also, I believe Healthy Hair Care makes a "face glo" in black-- not sure how much of a coverup that would be but you could try it??

What about a non-toxic black felt marker? (waterproof) That and liquid shoe polish was what we used to use to cover up scars or sarcoids at shows.

Keep in mind that whatever you use does not attract dust or you may have some funny looking dust stripes!

Glad the trailer accident was not more serious, and I hope that those little scrapes don't swell like they have a habit of doing! How annoying to have such a silly accident happen right before a show.

I was just a little bit annoyed to have an accident, especially after Elvis's fiasco at the vet ( See "Adventures in Trailering" in Horse Stories) I am glad she's okay. I did make her get back into the trailer and stand there for a few minutes and then I let her out and kept her moving around a bit. I deffinelty don't want her legs to swell. I gave her a good dose of Bute, hopefully that'll keep the swelling down. She also has a capped hock that get's irritated. Sometimes when she lays down and get up too fast or bumps her stall wall that will swell. I just hope to gosh that doesn't swell too!! Thet'll never be gone by Saturday.

Hey Tiggy, What is Healthy Hair Care Face Glo??? ( I'm in the dark when it comes to beauty supplies. I can't even put on eyeliner straight, lol)

Shoe polish might not be a bad idea either! Thanks Tiggy, EA

They sell black "hair spray" at most tack stores. Its like a section at an auto store for cover ups and you can match you horse almost exactly to any color on their shelf. At least we have a section like that but then again, our tack store is MONSTEROUS!

Our TSC carries it
Why do horses always do that before a show?
If you get the horse spray paint-let us know how it does please-always wondered about that At least she has black legs they seem like they would be easier to hide stuff on than white.

My mare has an old injury on her leg and it turned the hair white. Since she is a bay I need her legs to be black so I use a permanent marker. It worrks great and actually isnt permanant, it comes off in a couple days.

Id use the black spray stuff. They sell it in all kinds of colors. I actually used a little of the "sorrel" on Zippy at our first show for the dull spots. Works great, and comes off easily when you want it to.

Good luck, and be sure to take tons of photos!

While I was looking through one of the many horsey catolugue I actually saw somerthing that they sell for this exact purpose. I think it was a spray. The one I saw was by Shapley's. And it did come in differant colors, black was one of them.

The sprays work awesome
There called Shapleys show sprays
I use black white and chestnut
I have a big bay and he has 4 white socks that fade to black then to brown. There awesome looking.
I use the sprays at every show. What it is , is a chalk liquid substance that you can jsut spray. Its safe to spray on cuts, just wash off as soon as your done showing.
It makes everything stand out!
I would def. recomend it!
