Hey everyone, I was wondering what kind of clothing do the riders have to wear. Like what color breeches is allowed and stuff like that. Oh its for both english and western shows

Depends, what type of show are you doing? (which breed, open, schooling, etc)

It would depend on class and breed. I have TWH so we show in saddleseat garb - still considered "English" by our standards, but a far cry from what you would wear in a hunter class!

Well, like western like western pleasure is different than barrels poles and roping. Even more, western pleasure varies between the breeds, like arabs with scalloped chaps, qhs with fringe, or saddlebreds who I have been told love to put crystals in every place imagionable (all the way up and down chaps, aqha is a little more modest as you get older).

This color goes great with any color horse. It stands out and the matching chaps really stand out. If you would like the link where i bought this i cant share it with you.
If you are looking for a pleasure look

are.

If you are going to local open shows like Hastings Lake, or any of the saddle club shows, then no, you do not need chaps to show western. Many riders wear black slacks/jeans or blue jeans. I went with chaps so I could wear my breeches underneath and not worry about changing between classes!

For hunter/jumper shows, or english classes at open shows, then beige/tan breeches, and either tall leather feild boots OR black paddock boots and matching half chaps are the most acceptable. Navy Blue Hunt coats are best for hunter shows (navy never goes out of style), but sweaters and/or vests are ok for schooling shows. You just don't want to wear anything baggy like a hoodie or a loose sweat shirt...nor do you want to wear anything that would not be allowed on a golf course (so no tank tops!). Helmets required too!

Breed shows are much more specific and "trendy". EC rules can tell you what is allowed, but if you want to fit in, you need to see what is "in".

Yup. What type of show, what level, what breed and what discipline within English or Western.

Confused yet?

No offense to hayhay, and I don't do walkers, but that outift is too loose. Things need to fit well or they look sloppy, and stock horses usually don't wear gloves. We also use the quarter crease in our hats, not the flatter style hayhay has.

If you are doing local, jeans and a button down collard shirt are fine. But still... Hat with some shape. No straw for women, nice felt hat, 6X minimum. Classic colors are more popular for the hat(black, white, baige, brown). Belt should match outfit, either blingy all the way around or plain with a nice buckle.

I would get a pair of either black or brown chaps to start with, then you can get different shirts that will still match. Many horsemanship outfits will have colors that match the shirt, but it gets expensive if you want more than one outfit. Your chaps should be TIGHT. As my IHSA coach would put it "you don't want to be wearing two stovepipes". In the pics below mine don't fit the best, but we aren't all made out of money lol.

Here are some pics of some oufits I wear at AQHA shows:

a Jacket:

Blouse:

Horsemanship:

And this a friend wearing another jacket/blouse type shirt, but also works for HMS.

No, you do not need a jacket, blouse, and HMS shirt. Any one will work for any other event. When I show, even at big breed shows I don't worry about changing between events. Whatever I wear that day is what I stay in. Yes, at worlds I would switch, but you have days between events.

I personally like the look of jackets, they are very versitile and can be used for showmanship, too.

so, helped any?

man alive, I am so confused. I will need to get myself a navy show jacket with a nice shirt. And I will need some black chaps and a western show jacket/shirt....I think I have everything else....

Have:
leather field boots
black western hat
english helmet
tan breeches
shinny belt and buckles

now for the horse...what do I need to show him in? Does it have to be all blinged up for western? What about english??? ugh this is so confusing.

You don't have to have the fancy silver show saddle. There are plenty of people I see at breed shows that show in what appear to be plain reining saddles.

The thing is... if you aren't the best, fitting into the crowd helps. If you don't have all the correct stuff, and you aren't a very nice pair you will stick out as not knowing what you are doing (not that i am saying You.. just using as example). But if you are spot on, the judges know, no matter what you look like.

I have found the biggest thing about tack is that its CLEAN!!! Even a fancy saddle is not appealing unless its clean. Well taken care of and clean tack always gets my notice. It shows pride as well as a clean and groomed horse.
