Don't know who you talked to, but AQHA will not register an "unknown" horse, no matter what the circumstances.

Trust me we've been dealing with an issue for about 3 years now. Even though we know the breeder that our mare came from - and yes all they had was 100% registered stock - a big ranch with 3 stallions and large herd of mares,...we have a probability of the stallion she is by (she did not match the dna of her supposed to be father - only 2 of their stallions were dna'd but not the 3rd),....and the fact that mare is 25 years old and has always been AQHA registered and had foals throughout her lifetime that have always been registered.....they still have pulled her papers. It's kind of sad that a grand old lady that has worker her entire life either as a ranch mare or raising babies had her papers pulled. We know where she came from and where she's been, we just can't pinpoint who her mother and father are because they did not require dna testing that long ago. Our 4 yr old gelding that is out of her is registered in AQHA. He was registered before all this came about. His papers will be changed to only have a top side to his pedigree and then where his dam's name is, it will have her name but then say "unknown". You know, it's real funny that AQHA said we could still breed her and her foals would still be able to be registered the same as our gelding as they will consider her AQHA breeding stock, but just not with a pedigree...she's old and we have no intention of breeding her anyway, but we asked AQHA "what would the good be of that?"

Sorry, to go a bit off subject, but I really think you are mis-informed on the AQHA registration.

Out of the 14 horses in the showmanship class I was speaking of, 6 were stallions. I have not done much showing outside of the Gypsy horse world, so maybe it is something that isn't done often. I do see several stallions in the local open shows as well, though. And not always the same stallions.

I understand the idea that showmanship and horsemanship is based on the handler or rider, but I also think it speaks volumes to have a stallion that can put a pattern together consistently and in a fluid manner. Oh, and with no Vicks either!
I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to argue. I do enjoy seeing stallions participate and getting to be real horses. Its just not something that I have seen much of in the shows. The stallions that I see at the open shows are in halter and most leave right after they win their money for whatever place they got. Maybe it seems there aren't that many as when I was growing up Robert's Arena was big with an AQHA show every weekend, so maybe the stallions were normally at the breed shows.

What part of Ohio are you from? After we finish up at the world if you are close enough, I would love to make a field trip up to see your Gypsy horses. I think they are gorgeous creatures. I will probably never be able to afford one of them. My friend in TX that has them, she actually was living in England at the time she bought most of them, and then moved them with her when she came back to the states. At that time she was in CA, then moved them cross country to TX (one ended up giving birth in the trailer, the little guy wasn't supposed to arrive for a few more weeks, that was a shock to them at one of the rest stops on the way)

I believe the point of the American Horse Registry, which will register any horse, was to get microchipping going. You registered, they provided you with a low cost or free microchip for your vet to insert.

Since when does AQHA do hardship papers? In just about every registry they are going to ask what his sire/dam's name and numbers are, also going to need a breeder's certificate.

At this point I think you are mistaken- he wont be eligible for any papers with any association that I know of. Whether thats AQHA, IBHA, ABRA or whatever you are trying to do. Dunno where you got your information from but you were misinformed.

The American Horse Reg is just a big nothing. Its not really a big registry that you'd do much with like AQHA, APHA or whatever. Its main focus is to microchip horses to help in loss prevention. You can get any old nag of a horse papered through them.
