Things I always take

Grooming Supplies (Brushes, Combs, Towel, Hoof Pick)
Show Sheen/Cowboy Magic (if showing halter classes esp.)
Hoof Polish

Feed and Water Buckets
Bucket Hangers
Feed/Hay
Pitchfork
Manure Bucket (if in stalls)
Shavings (if in stalls, if permitted)

Tack (Saddle, Bridle, Boots, Show Halter, etc.)
Show Clothes
Hairspray
Hairbrush
Hat/Helmet
Boots

Coggins
Pen
Emergency Contact Info to post on stall (if overnight)
Tape (packing type)
Baling Twine
Scissors/Knife

Extra Halter/Lead Rope

Now, I'm sure I've missed a few items, but this should cover most instances...oh, I almost forgot...smile!...have fun with it.

Halter, lead rope, horse, coggins
Tack- saddle, saddle pad, bridle
Grooming supplies- brushes, hoof pick and such
hay and hay bag
water bucket
extra cinch, pad, leadrope, reins etc just to have an extra on hand
first aid kit- for horses and humans
lawn chairs
cooler w/ food/drinks
Oh, and the thing I most commonly forget then have to borrow: a rake to clean up my horses poo...

Is it a day show or a weekend long show? When I go to day shows, I do not take alot w/ me. When going to a weekend long show where I have to stall a horse, I take alot more stuff- more hay, shavings etc.

Don't forget the shampoo, I never get through a show without someone needing at least a spot wash, lol.
Leather cleaner/conditioner.
If you feed grain bring a scoop
Water hose, you never know if there will be one there.
As pippy said, have two of everything you can; girth, reins, pads, etc...just in case.
If you have one its great to have a sleazy for your horse, it keeps them from getting as dirty while standing in the stall.
Bring clothes for you for all weather, muck boots, sweatshirt, coat, etc....

We don't show, we compete.

Horse - and an extra horse
Saddle, Spare saddle, in case something happens to the first one.
Chest strap - a spare chest strap
Bridle, reins, bit - complete set up and at least one spare.
Saddle blanket - a spare in case the first one has an accident or gets sweaty.
Halter, lead rope - and a spare
Leg and feet protectors - and spares
Any other piece of tack that is regularly used on horse and a spare.
Fly spray & Saddle oil
Strings and pieces of leather, spare clips, screw nuts for quick repairs
Straight edge, and phillips screw drivers, regular and needle nose plyers, leather punch, knife
Trimming, and shoeing equipment, we’ve had horses throw a shoe at a show.
Cold weather blankets
Fans and electrical cords for hot weather (with bungee cords to attach fans to stalls)
Brushes, combs, shampoo, mane & tail detangler, towels for rubbing off sweaty horse in between runs
Hose with sprayer, some places don’t provide hoses
Banamine, at least two syringes with needles, Paste Bute (phenylzone) - kept in cooler.
Electrolytes - powdered form
(also a large squirt bottle as most horses who colic do not want to drink or eat on their own)
Shovel, rake, (shavings and coggins if necessary)
Whatever you feed the horse.
Water buckets, feed buckets, chains or tie-straps to hang buckets in stalls
Hay bags, and a spare water bucket to refill hanging buckets

Light weight, comfortable folding chairs
One small, and one large ice chest, food and drinks for humans (don’t forget electrolytes for humans)
We also always bring a jar of pickles - its great for muscle cramps.
Towels for wiping off humans in between runs
Clothes, boots, spurs, hat, helmet and extras
We carry both coats and vests during cold weather as vests are easier in which to ride
Personal hygiene items, and something to wear after the show

I just know I forgot something…

Oh my gosh, you bring back memories of the enormously long checklist I used to have to make sure I didn't forget to bring something to a show.

I don't have my old list still, but I found one online that might be helpful to look through:
http://www.horsechannel.com/horse-ex...checklist.aspx

I definitely recommend computerizing whatever list you end up using so you can print it off each time you need it. Way easier than having to remember each time before you go!

Have a terrific time! Oh, and I know you didn't ask for advice on what to do when you're there, but my biggest piece of advice is to arrive early, early, early so that you have plenty of time to check things out, relax any nerves, and settle down any equine nerves before your classes begin.

a camera
we use a block to put your horses hoof up on when putting on polish so nothing sticks to it and you can see the whole hoof..so you dont miss a spot. ( a flat chunk of wood works well)

good luck and remember to have fun and smile

Thanks guys! It's just a day show no more than half-an-hour from home. It's an english pleasure class if that makes any difference in what I need. It's just a schooling show but I still want us to look our best & be prepared.

One thing I forgot...someone to dust your boots once you're in the saddle...everything clean and shiny (horse, you, tack)...are you braiding the mane? Oh, is your horses mane long or short? Is this a breed or local type show? A lot of your turnout depends on what is expected at the show...have you been to watch one? For instance...if all the other horses have short, braided manes, you will stand out if you have a long mane, or even a short mane that isn't braided...

English pleasure...hair in a hair net, neatly tucked up under your helmet...
...english saddle, fitted white fleecy pad, matching breastplate
...no martingales allowed in flat classes, matching bridle,
...eggbutt or d-ring snaffle, or kimberwicke for a bit
...could also use a pelham bit...
...breeches (khaki or tan), shirt with choker and stock pin
...hunt coat, in a dark color (navy/hunter) w or w/o pinstripes
...tall boots
...riding gloves, preferably black leather
...no splint boots/bell boots on the horse

I'm sure its different in different places, but most of what is here will do you where ever you are...and again, I'm sure I'm forgetting something

I have always "googled" .... "list of items to take to a horse show". Although everybody has already supplied wonderfully complete lists!

Enough rags to wipe hooves, boots, drippy noses - your's and the horse's, bit scum. Someone special for giving you a final wipedown before you enter the ring. 80% of a judge's impression is when you walk in the ring so look smart and make your horse walk smartly. Program your vet's phone # into your cell phone. Did anyone mention black gloves?
