Anyone used Sole Gaurd?

I was reading on Sole Gaurd. It sounds like it might be a viable option for two of my horses. Has anyone used it? What did you think of it?

Is that a spray on hoof harden/shield?? I just had a friend mention something to me today about a spray on that she read about in Horse Illustrated.
Just wondering if thats it? Thanks, RB

This is a double tube stuff. Looks like an epoxy tube mix. Supposed to mix it then squirt it onto the sole and frog of the hoof but not past the white line on the hoof. Supposed to last about three weeks and be a alternative to shoes.

Hummm, not sure about that. This sounded like something else.
Sorry, I'm no help. RB

Lookes messy. With all the prep and only lasts 3 weeks are you going to get the farrier out every three weeks to put it on? I would be totally afraid to trim the sole myself every 3 weeks. Why not just put shoes on?

I have been putting shoes on the ones I ride often. I was thinking this would be good for over the winter when I don't ride that often to want to keep shoes on constantly, so I could put this on if I decided to ride. I am just looking for an alternative for "spot" rides.

There are those who swear by the boots that you can take on and off......maybe that could help?

I have looked into them but don't feel they would work well for me. Every set I have seen someone use has broken, come off multiple times on the trail, or rubbed their horse. I wouldn't mind using boots if I could find some decent ones.

The Sole-Guard (I assume you are talking about the Vettec stuff) isn't that difficult to use (you can do it yourself) but you have to be careful that the sole is clean and dry (a hair dryer can help). You have to be careful not to put in too much or it can actually bruise the sole (if it is "bulged out" on the bottom).

My horse has thrush issues, and even though the company told me this stuff has a thrush preventative, I was a little worried. I opted for Easycare Epics instead. Haven't had a bit of problems with rubbing (they sit below the hairline) or loss.
