I really like the 'spot on' things-they come in 3's, and you just put a little on the horse. They last for almost 2 weeks, and really work well.

Several years ago I was using Pyranna, well my horses 6 out of 10 lesson horses developed rain rot. one horse so bad that we called the vet.
all caked hair and no way was it coming loose. and I tried all my tricks.
Vet said that over use of Pyranna Possibly the cause, She had other clients that had the same problem so I discontinued it and gave all baths, with medicated shampoo and the horse that was so bad I put on antibotics. by the end of the summer 6 weeks she was 100% normal coat.
Just my personal experience here.

The pyrhana is two varieties. I like the aerosal and it will keep everything off the horse for about an hour.
All we use here at the shows. Never even heard of it before our last trainer. Amazing.
The pump-I do not see the same results from.
I am not liking most of the darn sprays though anyway..

I've used Pyranha for about a year now, started because it was cheaper than most others, and people recommended it, too. It is quite strong, keeps most bugs away, and lasts for most of the day - but it's in an oil base, and attracts every bit of dust, and will get horse clothing gunky. It's also really bad on some plastic items. Also, it does need to be re-applied daily and really heavily. It does not seem to be equally strong all through the summer - maybe because of different insects. When it stops working, I use TriTec for a while, and then go back to Pyranha. Different fly sprays may work best in different areas. Still, it's pretty much the most cost-effective fly spray I've found so far, at least for this area.

I have used Pyranha fly spray the last couple summers, and I do like it. It is oil based which helps it last longer. I reapply every to every other day.
As well, I keep a fly sheet on my horses most days. I have always heard that it is best to rotate fly sprays, so I try to use 3 different ones, and rotate accordingly as the fly population worsens thru the summer.
I also like Repel XP concentrate, and then I just pick up some other random spray. Pyranha, being the one I use at the height of the summer.
I also feed my horses a feed thru fly control to help with the fly population around the barn. I find this helps a lot, too. I just ordered Equi Fly, which is manufactured by United Vet Equine. It's the same as Solitude, etc. It kills the fly larva, so it can not reach maturity.
This combo works very well for me, because my barn is about 400 feet from my house, which means the flys find their way inside sometimes and that drives me crazy.Good luck. Redboy

I know people that use it and say it works great! Every thing about it is wonderful! You can use it on horses and yourself.. But from what I hear you have to groom your horse real good or it makes the dirt all clumpy and hard and the spray wont work as well.

I make my own spray, but i always keep Pyrannah (sp) around just in case i run out of my own, I really like it. But is is oily like someone else on here said. and i would only use it on there legs every day, i wouldnt spray it on their entire body every day, because it does last a couple of days, that i have noticed.

And that is a great price, I just paid 18.00 for the Qt. size bottle at my tack store.

I use it on the dark ones, but the mostly white ones get too grungy from the oil base and the pasture dirt! I like it works well and I've never had any issues with burns or rot from it. But I don't spray them super heavy with it.

it's ok

It's ok I've used it. a recent article in one of the magazines said none of our sprays last more than a couple of day, if that. article said to spray daily. I buy endure and tritec, altho I still spray every day.
endure is on sale at www.bigdweb.com
tritec is on sale at doversaddlery
I buy the gallons as I use a lot.
buy something, use daily, cause the expensive ones don't last those 10 o 14 days! I know from using all on my 2. and we're in southeast georgia, home of skeeters, flies, and biting sand gnats.
use skinsosoft and buyit on ebay, cheaper and good, mix with white vinegar, and water, and spray daily
or listerine works too.
also keeps ants off of them.

I use Pryanha, and I LOVE it! It is by far the best fly spray. I use the newer one that is not a sticky b/c it has a water base, not oil. It is really nice. Pyranha is a little more expensive but is well worth it.

There are just two different kinds-they have not made a newer one.
the aerosal is oil based and the spray bottle water based.
I love the aerosal.

The aerosal is oil based, but they have two different sprays. One is oil (pyrethrum) based, a newer one (came out a year ago), is water based, it is not sticky or oily. They brought out the new spray when they brought out the shampoo. It is called, Equine Spray and wipe, it has a different bottle. The oil/pyrethrum based is called Wipe N' Spray. Not many people know that there are two sprays.

hey, works for me. I've never tried the aerosol, but everyone else loves it. I just don't use it b/c of the enviroment and my horses are scared to death of it. (They're babies!!) A lady at the barn sprayed my horses with it and they FLIPPED! It was NUTS!

I love the aerosol as well, although like Tmom, nothing seems to work 100% right now, esp in Florida. The mosquito is the state bird, lol. Funny thing is the flies arent really on the horses, they are more hanging around the barn and in the stalls which drives ME nuts.
