Fly Predators

Howdy,

I am getting ready for fly season and was wondering if anybody has used the Fly Predators and if so, did it really make a difference and would you recommend them? Thanks, Val

I used them for 2 years. They did cut down on the amount of flys that I had but did not get rid of them. In the end for the expense I just decided to install an automatic fly system in the barn. The fly system is absolutly the best way to go, it even keeps flys away from the horses when they are outside.

I used the fly predators last summer. Got in a lil late on the order, but THEY ARE WONDERFUL!

I had 3 horses on very little pasture, no "barn/stalls", just a run-in.

My neighbor and I each have horses. The farrier noticed a difference!

I used them last year and have 6 horses on 4 acres and ddint have to touch the fly spray at all unless i was going off property. I love them and I am going to use them this year too.

Anyone else have any opinions on these. We are thinking of getting them and were wondering if they are worth it. Where do you get them from?

They worked great for me until the neighbor moved in with goats and cows. I hate flys.

Cow patty = Ideal fly breeding environment. We have 1/3 of the flies we had last year solely because I killed about 2 million of the darn things last year AND the neighbor moved his cows.

I have used fly predators (fly eliminators, fly parasites, lots of names for them) for four years. I didn't realize how well they are working until I went over the my neighbor's last week and saw that her poor horses were covered with flies.

Note: they only work on "filth" flies (I can park my manure spreader in my barn and leave it for a week until it is full and have NO flies), but I still have face flies and horse flies. (The HorsePal fly trap is supposed to work on horse and deer flies -- anyone have one?)

Many companies sell fly parasites and have different prices for different amounts. Two of the larger companies are Arbico Organics and Spalding Labs. (I buy from Arbico as I get more for my money and can get extra shipments free of charge if I have an unexpected fly problem. They also donate fly eliminators to my local horse rescue.) These insects are actually tiny parasitic wasps (stingless) that lay eggs in fly pupa and kill the flies. And using them is VERY easy.

this is our first year and it has made a huge difference!! we love them and will always use them now. I hear by the 2nd year in a row the difference is even bigger.

We have used the Spaulding brand of fly predators for 2 years now, and they DO make a big difference. We automatically receive them once a month beginning in spring and discontinue the shipments in the fall.

You need to pay attention to the directions for the application of them. You must wait to put them out until the little wasps are mostly hatched in the package, and then we have to wait to spread them around the problem areas (manure piles, barn areas) until nightfall so our free-range chickens do not eat them all.

Fly Pretators are supposed to be real good; I've had neighbors that used them. They do gross me out though.......I HATE bugs!

Can you start using Mid summer or do I need to wait to next year? I have a small area and only 3 horses but want these for my babies bad now.
