Best Friends Equine Cribbing/Free to Eat Muzzle

- Product Info -

Manufacturer: Best Friends Equine

Model Name: Cribbing/Free to Eat Muzzle

Product Type/Product purpose: Stop wood chewing, biting, cribbing, etc

Price and Purchase info:
$42.95 http://www.bestfriendequine.com/cribbingmuzzles.htm-

Product Description - Muzzle with an aluminum grill and 4 velcro flaps that attach to a breakaway halter

Pros: It is a great alternative to the cribbing collar for cribbers like mine that have developed sores and overall discomfort from other cribbing products.

Cons: The velcro flaps can be taken off by other horses.

Would you recommend this to a friend?: Yes definetely!

Other comments: I originally bought this product for my two wood chewers when I put them in their stalls so that they didnt continue chewing down the stalls. It worked great and I thought okay they are staying on so I am going to put them on Cowboy who is a horrible cribber and colics everytime he cribs. It has been a godsend to him. The cribbing collar caused sores even with the fleecys and I know it must have been so uncomfortable but I had no other alternative to keep him healthy. He has been wearing the muzzle for about a week now and can eat his grain, hay and drink fine with it. It just takes a little longer. It has made a big difference in his temperament and even though he looks hilarious I love it.

Overall Product rating: (out of 10)10

Those are great at a show if your stalled horse likes to grab at people or horses going down the aisle.

I liked mine for a cribber and have also put it on my blanket eater. The only thing that doesn't work for me is in the stall. I have corner feed buckets and I'm afraid they'll get stuck because it's a little big and cumbersome. Ditto on the straps. That's a pain.

Not so far I have used them three nights in a row and 24/7 on Cowboy now for awhile and they have been fine. There is really nothing (knock on wood) for them to get stuck on and I think the leather straps that I have used on the halter would snap pretty easily if needed to. I am just in heaven with them Cowboy is so much happier with it instead of the cribbing collar and the bratty mares cant chew up my stalls anymore!

My first leased gelding was a bully in the pasture so we had one of those on him. It had clips to attach to the halter though, not straps, so it never fell off. We did use a breakaway halter though in case he got caught up. Thank goodness I've never had a cribber but I'll keep it in mind for that purpose too!

While my daughter is taking her lesson I go and see the horses. One time a horse was wearing one and he came to close to the fence that was hot and you guessed it, zapped. I felt so bad for him.
