Pyranha Fly Spray

Pyranha Fly Spray

Manufacturer:Pyraha Inc.
http://www.pyranhainc.com/products_horse_care.asp#3

Model Name: Spray (non aerosol) and/or wipe on

Product Type/Product purpose: Repells flies

Price and Purchase info: Available everywhere. Price can be anywhere from $11.00 through $15 for the spray bottle, but gallon refills are a great savings, and you can put it into a spray bottle yourself for even more savings.

- Product Description -
A water based, wipe or spray on fly spray that actually works. It not only repells flies, it seems to kill those you manage to hit with the spray.

From their site:
"Pyranha Fly Spray is a premium product containing three active ingredients that quickly kill and then continue to repel flies, mosquitoes, gnats and other insects. This water resistant formulation conditions the coat and provides a healthy sheen. Can be applied as a fine spray or as a wipe (applied with a soft cloth)for added protection. It is available in the practical quart size with indivdual srayer, or in the economical gallon refills."

Pros: Everything. It's convenient, it works, and I think it's pretty cost effective.

Cons: Smells yucky, and if you use your hand, the odor stays on you for a while.

Would you recommend this to a friend?: Yes, without a doubt

Other comments: I've been known to spray it on piles of poo and walls where the flies accumulate (over pee/poo spots) and watched the flies die. I liked that.

While they say that you can apply it every week to 10 days, I have to use it daily, both because it's fly season and because Tango gets rinsed down every day after we work (and because I spray poop/pee spots...). I have gone through a quart size spray in about 5 weeks, and will say that I use a lot of it; so your experience of use may vary. But Tango isn't getting bit like his neighbors, and I don't see him biting at flies swarming him, 'cause they don't swarm him.

Yes, it's a bit more expensive than some other brands, but it works really well for my guy, and is worth the money. I'd shop around and see where the best price is, and then get the gallon refills and use a spray bottle I had around; that seems to be the most cost effective way for this product.

Overall Product rating: 10

I love it too-but if you like the pump spray you will LOVE the aerosal. All we use on the horses on show days. Total protection from everything, flies, skeeters and even fireants. No swishing tails or stomping feet in the ring.
It really seems to work better than the water based one and it has a coat conditioner in it too.

Same here - this is the spray I use.. I don't mind the smell - and it does seem to work - at least for a while.

I have thought about spraying a regular insectide around the ground of Shiloh's paddock - the flies there are horrible. The paddock gets cleaned everyday, and luckily he has a favorite spot where he goes, that is away from his feeder - so that is helpful.. I would like to find something that would kill the flies and the eggs/larve that are on the ground though. The fly management is tough because I board him with 50 other horses, so trying to keep the flies down is hard.

Any ideas?

We have probably tried most of the fly sprays out there over the years and this is by far the best.

I wouldn't mind using aerosol, but Tango would. LOLOL!

But I swear by this...and have gone around spritzing other horses next to Tango and they seem to have less fly bites too.

Ponderosa, why don't you try treating the pee spots, ground and the walls with Pyranha on Shiloh's stall? Since you won't be washing that too often, it might just do the trick. Another alternative is a dispenser for fly spray which you can mount on the wall and it uses batteries, and releases repellant every so often. I thought about it for Tango at the old place, but since it's like $60 and because he now is in a pipe corral (and LOVING it), the dispenser wouldn't work well because of the openness.

If you're stalled, that might work.

Best-
Noni

Hey girlfriend....

Shiloh is in a pipe corral with a cover too - so the dispenser won't work - I think I am going to try regular bug spray that I can put in a pump can - hudsen sprayer, and give a shot (no pun intended, but sorta cute )

The pryanana spray is $50 for a gallon.. so expensive- I will try the Ortho bug be gone around his corral and see how that goes,, I think for less than $20 - I can buy a gallon of that. We have a horrible fly problem..

Last year was my first time trying this spray. I was up at the warmup ring and I forgot to spray the horse! I wouldn't have made it back to the barn to get it, so I ran to the tack trailer and said to give me the best stuff. Handed me the Pyranha Fly Spray and I have been using that ever since! A+! Works great!!
