Shampoos

Has anyone tried the shampoos that have a spray which attaches to your hose--do you still have to scrub--are they any good?

Thumbs up

I am cheap. I went to Walmart and bought a $3 garden sprayer that goes on the end of a hose. I fill it with Palmolive Antibacterial soap.

My routine is Rinse horse with hose. Spray on the soap. Use a Jelly Scrubber to get the loose hair worked out. Scrub manes, tails, and sheaths (if needed). Rinse with hose again. Apply conditioner (I use Suave). Rinse again.

It all goes very quickly. I like the sprayer because I don't get anywhere near as wet as I do with the bucket of soap.

My stepmom has used the horsey ones in the past. She seemed to like them.

For over 30+ years with horses, I have ALWAYS used Suave shampoos and conditioners. The *origional* - NON scented bottle. My horses never had a skin issue and always looked great after a nice bath. Soft coat and their mane/tail flowing. I have seen Palmolive used also, in little amounts. As far as using the sprayer type thng that attatches to the end of the hose, to me, if you don't scrub your horse, get all the old, dead hair and dirt off, whats the sence of bathing !!! Ya gotta scrub !!!

I hear ya! I love my Jelly scrubber! The sprayer is just great for applying the soap. It gets all of those hard to reach places.

I use the Aloe and whatever Suave. It has a light scent and leaves little residue.

I always squirted the Suave (energizing citrus) onto my rubber curry and scrubbed it in after hosing first, and then rinse and repeat.

That's what I do... Squirt the shampoo on my scrubby (whatever one I use that day...) and scrub away.. And hose until the water runs clear off the horse..

I put lots of spitshine, time, and work into bathing my horses, but a friend of mine works at a Gypsy Vanner farm, and they do a LOT of bathing for a LOT of horses...And you know how white legs can be...They use the horsey spray thingies...They work I guess, the horses coats are always shiny, and healthy looking, but they don't do a good job of cleaning the white markings....

That's the only experience I've had with them really.

I don't like them. All they seem to do is just rinse the horse. Which I guess if you bathed weekly or something would be okay. But I only bath before a show a few times a year.

I like Orvus shampoo and a good scrub. It's really concentrated so a tub will last years. A quarter size dab will wash the whole side of a big horse; white legs and all very clean.

It also doesn't burn the eyes or leave any residue. They use Orvus to wash Antique Quilts since any residue will cause them to break down.

Plus it's just cool how when its hot it's a thin liquid but when it's cold it's a solid.

We use the Easyall that Clinton Anderson indoeses. It works will one the body of our horses(and we have paints with plenty of white)

I don't like it so much for their manes and sometimes we have to scrub on the legs, but for the most part it works.

I don't "wash" them very ofter, but I do rinse them off after every ride

How funny, I use Suave too, my girls like to pick out the different scents for Sassy, and I don't have to go crazy when they leave the bottle open and half of it goes down the drain.

I have a new favorite way of a quickie bath!!! I have a cremello that loves green poo and lots of pintos so I'm doing alot of quick rinses

I hose them down to wet them. I then give them a spray all over with Cowboy magic greenspot waterless shampoo. Scrub them with a jelly scrubber (a quick curry all over) and rinse. It rinses out very easy (it mean to be sprayed and left on!) they have a nice soft sheen to them and they are incredibly soft!!! It really dissolves the dirt and gets the skin pink and clean.

I have used the ones in a spray attachment bottle and never really felt they worked well.

FOr an all over true bath I am a big fan of the quic silver, quic color, and new quic black.

We have paints and use the easyall,it works really well if you use the sprayer that comes with it and the # 2 orffice. Spray it on and leave it for 1 to 2 min.,then rinse leaves the coat soft .Other riders are always commenting on the look and softness of our horses hair.

Mane & Tail Spray Away Shampooer

I have used Mane & Tail's Spray Away deluxe sprayer and foamer. It's great and easy to use if in a hurry. For the most part it cleans good. It can be heavy if you put too much concentrate in it though and it makes it more awkward to use. It also doesnt work good with a coiling hose, the hose tends to kink. I used the economy sprayer (disposable). It also worked good. Worked better than the heavier one with the coiled hose.
Overall I like the products for a quick wash. However if I am showing in showmanship or just every once in a while want to give a good deep down clean, I use the sprayers and then go over them with the jelly scrubber. I also add shampoo to the mane and tail and give them a better wash.

Me too - but I like the other scents also - if Joe is really naughty, I use the most girly scent I can find, and let him pout for a few days until it wears off..
