Grooming Products: Mane 'N Tail Conditioner

- Product Info - Mane 'N Tail Conditioner

Manufacturer: Straight Arrow
Model Name: N/A
Product Type/Product purpose: Conditioner for Equine manes and tails.
Price and Purchase info: $5.67 for 32oz. or $16.49 for gallon from www.valleyvet.com

- Product Description - Exclusive protein based conditioner, to be used after shampooing or anytime conditioning is needed. Stimulate growth and enhances manageamility, creating thicker, more natural hair.

Pros: Works great, doesn't leave hair weighed down or greasy, works great on human hair also. Can also be found at your local Wally world. Can also be used as a leave in conditioner although I always rinse it out. It also rinses out well in cold water. Great at getting out those nasty tangles. I've also used it on the body after body clipping.

Cons: Don't know of any.

Would you recommend this to a friend?: Yes.

Other comments: Fairly inexpensive, has stood the test of time.
Overall Product rating: 8

I've used this product as a leave in on both manes and tails, and found that I didn't really find it to be one of my favorites. Maybe I should try rinsing if I ever get it again!

I have used both the shampoo and conditioner since I was 14...on ME.

Now that I have horses, I use it on them too. I love it!

I just purchased some recently and thought it detangled and added some nice shine. Then I heard it will make the hair break off, so I have been hesitant to use it. ??
Why didn't you like it HTAnnie??

I think I must have been over using it because I would often get a bit of a residue left behind on both the mane and the tail!

I used to use that all the time on the little pony I had when I was younger. His mane and tail would be so nice. And I used the body stuff, as well, and made him all fluffy. But I had to lead him around until he was dry, or else he would role as soon as he was turned out again!!

you mean there are horses that don't roll? I use both the shampoo and conditioner and like them pretty well. I don't think I've ever really tried anything else. One of those big bottles goes a long way- especially since I don't give baths often.

I am tempted to agree with Annie....too much residue and too hard to get completely rinsed.

I swear by this stuff! I use it as a wash out when I give them their baths & as a leave in when they get into the @#$% burrdocks. Either way, it works great! I highly recommend it!

I love this product. It works great, plus it's inexpensive and goes a long way. I had my shampoo and conditioner for two years. Thumbs up for me.

After a while I found it does leave a residue. But I'm gonna tell everyone my secret for gummy hair! Every month I take one small packet of lemonade Kool-Aid. The kind you add sugar too.....but don't add sugar. lol Put the Koolaid in your hand and add the shampoo. Mix it and rub it in your hair and let it set a few minutes. Rinse it out and it takes any build up out and your hair feels really good. Make sure you do NOT get it in your eyes.

I like the Mane and Tail-they sell it at Wal-Mart and I used it on my hair. I have heard if you switch shampoos every now and then you can prevent buildup. At our barn we use Dawn dishwashing liquid. It does not leave a buildup, is very very gentle (they used it on the wildlife that were affected by the oil spill of the Exxon Valdez) then I use Suave conditioner.

What makes it work? What if you have dry hair already, will it make it worse?

I have no idea what make it work. I read to use it in a magazine and tried it. It worked great. I have color treated and permed hair and it doesn't hurt mine. I only use it about once a month and it takes all the oils and buildup out of my hair and makes it feels great. I am blonde though and it brightens my hair.
I also use Aussie 3 minute miracle for an everyday conditioner. I have very thick, tangly hair and it is the only thing I found to get out ALL the tangles.

I also use this. I use it about once a week and I love it. It's a really good deep-conditioning product.

I LOVE this product. I use it for both my horses and for myself. I use the shampoo and the conditioner. It's the only kind that I will buy for my horses.

A solution of vinegar and water, about 50-50 works well to remove residue from hair, either human or animal. I've found that by leaving a little conditioner on the mane and tail one can "reactivate it" with either wet hands or a misting of water.
