Fly Sprays That Work
I use Endure Fly Spray and it works great! Much cheaper by the Gallon though. I also found some stuff called Cactus Juice and man is that stuff good too! If you spray your whole horse and leave one leg unsprayed the flies will not land anywhere on the horse that has been sprayed! My Farrier showed it to me, he uses it on all of his clients horses before he will work on them. 1 Quart makes a Gallon and it is about 22.00 a Quart. I also know if you tuck a dryer sheet in your back pocket while trail riding the bugs will leave you and your horse alone, cheap little trick!

I love, love, love White lightning. You mix it with Vinegar and it changes the Ph so that the bacteria you are treating cannot survive. Being in Florida we constantly have problems with fungus and thrush and also white line disease. It works well in all applications, especially when nothing else works.

I'm hoping that there can be a review of stirrup extenders. These are the only ones I know about. Other than a stool, it would be nice if someone could come up with a cheaper alternative

Anyone used a Turtleneck turnout blanket or sheet? I have a horrid time finding anything that fits my Arab gelding: everything I've tried either rubs him or lets in water/snow at the neck/shoulders. Supposedly these blankets do neither??

Easyboots
Anyone have experience with Easyboots?
I am interested in using easyboots on my mare who has brittle feet. We are using hoof supplements and dressing but in the meantime I need something I can ride her in without causing further splits/chips. My farrier has advised against shoeing her....he doesn't think they will stay on and will further weaken her feet. How well do they hold up during rides? How well do they stay on? And how long do they last if used as riding only shoes for say, 3-4 30 min rides a week on a variety of surfaces? How hard are they to fit? Are they true to size? Anything else you can think of I appreciate it.

Nickie- I tried the black as knight henna shampoo. I was pretty impressed right after I used it, but it didn't last very long. However, my horse was outside all of the time so that probably had something to do with it. It would be great to use right before a show, it made him really shiny.

Fly sheets - need to be made of Textilene. Nothing else lasts like it does.
Fly masks - also Textilene. I don't know why they are called break-away as the harder one pulls the tighter the hook and loop closure gets. |

We bought the Easyboot Epic for our Thoroughbred mare whose feet were trimmed really badly by the old ferrier and were cracking badly also. She was having a hard time getting around due to pain. We bought them to use in her recovery process as it worked brilliantly for another horse at our barn also. She has had them on for more than a week with ezboot pads at the bottoms for cushion (she gets them off a little bit each day though). She can gallop, climb hills and everything in them without rubbing anywhere. And she is moving pain free from the moment we put them on!! This alone made it worth it for me. They are VERY stiff when new and difficult to get on at first. But they work really well and I think very worth the investment. ETA: We also drilled holes in the side to allow for drainage and air in case her feet got wet etc. Last edited by AllUpHill : 09-13-2008 at 04:13 PM. Reason: forgot the modifications |

I get mine from Arbico Organics and I think their fly parasites have a different "mix" of various species. I won't ever go another summer without these things. We park our manure spreader in the barn and we have zero flies on it. They take care of any kind of fly that breeds in or around manure. Most days I don't have to use fly spray at all.
