2008 Horsetopia Calendar Guidelines (don't post photos here)
Hi everyone!
It's time to get going on the 2008 Horsetopia Calendar Contest. The guidelines are slightly different from last year so please read carefully. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply below. Do not post your entries in this thread, they will need to be emailed to us (see more info below). You can enter as many photos as you'd like, but please make sure they meet our criteria before sending them in. 1. Photo must be high quality and digital. This means about 1612x1024 pixels or good enough for an 8" x 10" print. If you submit a photo and the resolution is too low, we won't be able to consider it. 2. Photos must include at least one horse as the main subject. (no people in the photos, please!) 3. Photos should be visually stunning and horizontally oriented (the photo should be wider than it is tall). You've all seen plenty of calendars -- photos should be clear and should have a great background (or at the very least, the background should be clear of trash and/or manure) 4. You must own the rights to the photo. The photo must be taken by you (or a family member). Winners for each month will be asked to sign a release form, giving us permission to use the photo in a commercial capacity. You will not have to sign over your rights to the photo, but you will need to agree that Horsetopia.com can use any photo you submit in our promotional materials or in the Calendar. Calendars will be sold towards the end of 2007 and we will do our best to find a low-cost distributor. To help you get an idea of the quality we are looking for, please, see the winners from last year here: http://forum.horsetopia.com/viewtopic.php?t=14161 To submit a photo, please email it to Horsetopia.Calendar@gmail.com -- we will post the photo within a week or two of receiving it, if it meets the above criteria. Please make sure to include your forum username in the subject line of the email! Depending on the quality and quantity of photos received, this contest may remain open for quite some time. This contest will not affect our regularly scheduled monthly photo contests. Additionally, you are free to submit photos to both contests simultaneously. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM Horsetopia-Annie. Now, get out there with those cameras! Please remember, do NOT post your photos in this thread. You need to submit them by email to Horsetopia.Calendar@gmail.com with your forum username in the title of the email.

How long will you be accepting pics for the calender? I know you need time to get everything set up, but hopefully we'll have a couple months so things can start turning green again. And sorry if you said it and I missed it.

When you go to email a photo file that you want to submit, attach the original file that is saved in your computer, not one that you've shrunk to post here, nor one you've cropped down to a smaller size. (Dial-uppers, this takes FOREVER!) Most digital cameras that are 3 MegaPixels or greater will take high resolution shots that are perfect for the calendar.

My 256 MB card gets about 80 high resolution pics, from a 6.0MP camera.

So... Is 1600 x 1200 high enough?
I know you said, "This means about 1612x1024 pixels"... It's close. ![]()

Everyone needs to re-read these guidelines for submitting photos. We've had alot of great photos that didn't meet these requirements. Please take a look at them again before submitting photos!

Regarding this Requirement:
1. Photo must be high quality and digital. This means about 1612x1024 pixels or good enough for an 8" x 10" print. If you submit a photo and the resolution is too low, we won't be able to consider it. I'm going to give you some real really basic hints or tips here, with some links for further reading at the end of my post. But that is NOT to say you have to become a camera (or computer) expert just to send in your photos! ![]()
And of course, if you have any doubts about whether it's big enough, just send it on in!!!
