How to Post Photos and Avatars

Hi everyone,

Here are instructions on how to post photos and avatars. If you are having trouble, please make sure that you read all the current posts about this topic before starting your own thread. If you don't know how to search, look at the top of the screen for the magnifying glass icon. Click on the word "search" and enter the word "avatar". Thanks to Muttduck for the clear instructions.

Everyone has trouble with pics in the beginning, I have found having two windows open to bounce between is easiest. I'm putting the help for both the contest and avatars, just in case you need it...

Photo contest:
Make sure the pic is a .jpg or gif file first. Then, under the photo in photobucket, there are three boxes. They are "Url" "Tag" and "Img" You need to highlight everything in the "Img" box and right click/copy. (It should begin with [img]....)

Then reply in the photo contest thread, and right click/paste, it should transfer all of the needed data.

First, set up an account with www.photobucket.com and upload your pictures there (it's FREE!). Pictures need to be in .jpg or .gif format to work on Horsetopia, .bmp will not work. Photobucket will allow you to reduce the picture there to the appropriate size, keep reducing til it is right.

It is best to have two 'windows' open to browse back and forth between here and there after uploading...

Avatars:
Make sure the pic is a jpeg or gif file first. (It should also be less than 140 x 200 pixels) You need to highlight everything in the "Url" box below the pic at photobucket and right click/copy.

Then go to your "Profile" here at the forum. Scroll down to the avatar area. Here you will find the box labelled "Link to off-site Avatar:" this is where you right click/paste. Then click submit. (and cross your fingers )

Alternatively, you can save the image on your computer and upload the photo directly to horsetopia by directly entering the file location in the box that says "Upload Avatar from your machine" or clicking on the button that says "browse".

Please note Make sure that you do not upload an avatar that is too large, otherwise it will make it difficult for other people to read your posts. Large avatars will be removed by administrators.
