2010 Calendar Contest Guidelines (don't post photos here)
It's time to get going on the 2010 Horsetopia Calendar Contest. If you have any questions, please feel free to reply below. Do not post your entries in this thread, they will need to be emailed to us (see more info below). You can enter as many photos as you'd like, but please make sure they meet our criteria before sending them in.
1. Photo must be high quality and digital. This means about 1612x1024 pixels or good enough for an 8" x 10" print. If you submit a photo and the resolution is too low, we won't be able to consider it. 2. Photos must include at least one horse as the main subject. (no people in the photos, please!) 3. Photos should be visually stunning and horizontally oriented (the photo should be wider than it is tall). You've all seen plenty of calendars -- photos should be clear and should have a great background (or at the very least, the background should be clear of trash and/or manure) 4. You must own the rights to the photo. The photo must be taken by you (or a family member). Winners for each month may be asked to sign a release form, giving us permission to use the photo in a commercial capacity. You will not have to sign over your rights to the photo, but you will need to agree that Horsetopia.com can use any photo you submit in our promotional materials or in the Calendar. Calendars will be sold towards the end of 2009 and we will do our best to find a low-cost distributor. To help you get an idea of the quality we are looking for, please, see the winners from the last few years here: Calendar contest winners! Please vote for the cover shot :) http://forum.horsetopia.com/viewtopic.php?t=14161 To submit a photo, please email it to Horsetopia.Calendar@gmail.com -- we will post the photo within a week or two of receiving it, if it meets the above criteria. Please make sure to include your forum username in the subject line of the email! This contest will not affect our regularly scheduled monthly photo contests. Additionally, you are free to submit photos to both contests simultaneously. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM Applejack or Lady_MCSE. Now, get out there with those cameras! Please remember, do NOT post your photos in this thread. You need to submit them by email to Horsetopia.Calendar@gmail.com with your forum username in the subject of the email.

Gentle reminder to everyone ... don't forget that these photos need to be HIGH QUALITY! The calendar requirements are 1612x1024 pixels.
If you have Windows XP, you can find out an image's size very easily. These instructions may also work for Windows Vista, but I'm not 100% certain on that. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
(edited to clarify last bullet)

Works for Vista too. All you should have to do is hover over the picture or right click and hit properties.
I did learn though that some email programs automatically shrink photo sizes.

Yeah, I'd say that most new cameras will work fine ... anything that is taking photos over 3megapixel should do fine.
Most of the problems I think we've had have been -- -setting the camera to take lower quality photos so that more photos will fit on the camera without having to download them -taking photos with camera phones, most of which have poor quality lenses and pixel resolution -taking a photo that may start out meeting our requirements, but then editing it with software to crop it -emailng it with software that shrinks it as it is sent -uploading to photobucket or other website which shrinks it as it is uploaded
