Parrots anyone?

Is there anybody out there that loves parrots, I have four of them, I have lots of fun and laughs with them, but unlike horse people share horse stories, I have not come across people who like to share their funny parrot stories. Non parrot people roll their eyes, as if they do not beleive what they get up to.
I am new to HT so I am sure I have missed previous posts, but would love to meet you all

I love parrots. I have a pair of Quakers and two pair of lovies.

The Quakers, don't talk yet..but they bark like my dog and laugh like my husband.

I used to breed birds but I am down to just a few nonbreeders. We have a greenwing macaw that tolerates me but loves my husband. I know alot of people perceive birds as noisy and messy (I won't argue that point) but they are so entertaining. Find me another pet that literally says "Gimme a kiss!" Tyler likes to argue. He was sitting on the door of his cage the other day and between the splats on my floor and cracked seed shells, he had quite a mess. My husband asked him if he made that mess. He cocked his head to look at it and replied "What?" So hubby repeats the question, to which he shakes his head and replies "No!" He also tries his best to talk you into sharing your food, repeating "Mmm is it good? " until you hand some over. He loves chicken nuggets .

Oh, me too, would love to hear the stories. I think they are so interesting, but I have too many critters already to get a parrot. Plus, I know nothing about their care, etc.
Do tell stories and share pics

I am also a bird lover too. I have a 13 year old cockatiel that I raised from a 5 day old chick. She is a sweetheart, but a nontalker. I also am allergic to the bird dander, so it is a little tough for me to enjoy her as I should. Darn eyes keep swelling shut. I also had over the years lovebirds, parakeets, and an Amazon Parrot that liked to mimic my dad. Drove my mom crazy

Parrots are alot of fun and so full of personality. I had a double yellow head Amazon parrot named Kibby - I used to take her to school with me when I was going to college. She would sit on my desk during lectures and I had a perch for her in the academic resource center where I worked as a tutor. One time I got pulled over by a policeman for an expired inspection sticker. He was so excited to see Kibby - he loved parrots. I took her out and put her on his arm. No ticket - he let me go with just a warning Kibby loved pizza and church's chicken - I always felt a little freaky watching her nibble on a piece of chicken - ya know

I would love to have a parrot.

I went into my local pet shop one day which had a macaw. He was perched on top of a door with his feathers all puffed out. I mean this bird looked miserable. He then let out in a forlorn voice, ¨CLAAARISSAA¨.

I, of course, asked the pet store owner who Clarissa was. She started laughing, all the while trying to hide it from the bird, named Beau. ¨Well she explained, "A man brought in his female parrot to board for two weeks, and this parrot bonded with Beau. When the man came back from vacation, Beau and his girlfriend parrot were loose in the shop. When the man tried to take the girl bird home, Beau attacked him, pecking at his leg hard enough to draw blood. The man was understanding about it, took his bird and left. Beau has been perched on that door top for the last three days, since his girlfriend left, and all he says is Clarrissa over and over.¨

"Oh, so the girl birds name was Clarissa, that´s pretty.¨ I said.

¨No, her name was Joe, the guy who owned her didn´t even know she was a girl parrot. It´s only Beau that calls her Clarrissa.¨

I made sure I laughed out of the sight of Beau.

I love parrots. I am not into caged birds though and prefer mine to come and go at their own will.

Here are a couple of king parrots that come to feed daily.

The male

The female

I am so glad I started this thread. I started out with my beby Quaker Niki when he was 4 months old, he was so cute and followed me everywhere and started talking, and has never stopped, he is 7 now. He sings "bad boy bad boy watcha gorna do" from cops, he sings Hey Niki your so fine your so fine you blow my mind, Hey Niki. Go Leafs go, (it does'nt help them) He will sneeze then say bless you, if I sneeze he says bless you, then he will ask Gotta cold, need a doctor. When I clean his cage he says oh oh did a poo poo, oh dear oh dear. He throws his toys on the floor, and then says go get it, pick it up. He shouts for my dog Brandy and feeds her his chicken (yes mine gets chicken, I feel bad too but they love it) He pretends to answer the phone mimiking me. If I go behind the bar we have, he shouts out wanna drink? then my African Grey, named Joe makes a blob blob blob noise and then a can opening noise. He rings like a phone, beeps like a microwave, and the worst is he barks just like the dog, I get up to let her out and she is fast asleep. He also howls like the dog, when they all wind up and start screaming together, the dog and bird howl together Niki shouts Nikkiiiiii be quiet, I rescued Joe, he lived in a cockatiel size cage and only got fed sunflower seeds, he had picked out any feather he could reach on his body. He is great now and full of feathers, loves veggies. but hates to be touched, he only lets me scratch his head. I also rescued a Mollucan and an umbrella cockatoo, they dont talk, but are funny in their own ways, they can demolish any toy or perch, in minutes, even the bullet proof acrylic ones, they maybe bullet proof, but not parrot proof. I also have 3 finches, one zebra and two society's. All lots of fun and work. I try to have them out of the cage as much as possible, it is harder with the cockatoos as you have to watch them every minute or you are missing a door or a wall, or a circuit breaker, thats another story.

I have an African Grey named Jerry. He is very funny! His latest sound is the sound of a pop can (or beer can!) opening.

I can handle him, play with him and take him out to his outdoor patio cage but he mimics my husband perfectly. I have been talking to him for years and he only says things my husband says in my husbands voice !! So when I come home Jerry says Hi to me, in my husbands voice....he cracks us up! He laughs like my husband, calls for my daughter in his voice, barks like the dogs. When we have gusets over they can't believe it!

I love my parrots - I have a blue headed Pionus parrot (Alex) and a little tiny parrotlet named Peanut. Alex is much more of a talker than I thought he would be, since Pionus are not known to be great talkers. But, he says "I love you" and sings a song that I taught him, and says other things also. He also thinks its hilarious to mimic the phone ringing, and then laughs his head off watching me search for the phone (he does the ring really softly, so it sounds like the phone is buried under something) He laughs like me - so I now know how annoying my laugh can be! He yells at the dogs when they bark - he knows their names and yells at them by name - I can't say enough about the Pionus species - they are smaller and relatively quiet. They also are independent, and so don't have meltdowns if they don't have constant attention which is perfect for me.

Joe keeps us entertained by whistling beautiful tunes when we whisltle a tune to him he repeats it perfectly, then adds a few notes and expects us to repeat, he is very entertaining, visitors to our home usually like Joe the best. When I first got him like I say he was a mess, but he also used to burp and make botty burp noises (did,nt know if I was allowed to say the F..ing word).
I will post some pictures but I am still learning the computer thing and have to figure out how to do it.
All my birds get lots of veggies and they get whatever we have for meals, they like to try a wide range of foods, I think it is so cute when they pick up the food with their claw, It is funny when they don't like something, peaches will throw it down and shake her head. Parrots can eat almost anything except advocado, caffine, alcohol, fatty foods should be limited, and careful with cheese for the lactose, Hope I hav'nt missed any.
Bird owners should also keep them away from areas where non stick items with Teflon type materials are used, when they overheat, they give off fumes that kill the birds very quickly, they include Irons, toasters, frying pans, deep fat fryers, even self cleaning ovens have caused death. They do not even need to reach high temps. to do harm. Scented candles are also a problem, as well as air freshners.
Other than that It is like having a toddler in the house, if they can get into trouble they will. It is also a good idea to keep the toilet seat down, I did hear of a bird drowning while trying to take a bath.
I bath my birds two or three times a week, I use a spray bottle with warm water and they love it, they get so excited when they see the bottle. Some people take them in the shower with them too!
Anybody any ideas on cheap safe homemade toy Ideas???

My little green Quaker is not a whole lot bigger than a budgie and he chases my dog, she is a shi-tzu but larger in camparison, the dog runs away pretty quick. Niki sticks his little neck out and charges, he thinks he is a hawk, I have to watch out for the dog.
I have also heard of a mallucan cockatoo breaking the leg of a cat with its beak, but some animals just do not mix well.
Even my husband and the birds do not mix well, more so when they scream, and they always do it when he is around, they can tell as soon as he walks in the door. I don't think he likes the fact most of them will outlive him.

I have a Timenh African Grey, his name is Sheldon and he is 10 years old. He calls the kids by name as well as myself. Though he has never said my husbands name. He calls all of the dogs and cats by name. Will tell the Kids NOOOO when they are in trouble or will ask them if they are ready for bed. He also laughs and sneezes just like me. He loves scrambled eggs.
