We have one that has to be kin to it.Ours is a horn worm,looks like yours but only has a single horn,green and feeds on tobacco and tomato plants also is good bait to catch catfish with.

I was gonna say tomato hornworm, but the hickory one is surely a better match. How interesting! And such a beautiful moth it produces!'I know we have tons of hickory trees in the woods, so I'll have to be on the lookout for the caterpillar or moth

I thought that too, tomato cat! They do make HUGE moths, about the size of two smaller ladies sized hands.

I found another picture of these things! Man they are creepy-looking!





ETA - at least I think it's the same species. This one has more spikes and some black spots.
