Leopard Gecko

Today, we went to the reptile expo, and I got a baby leopard gecko I talked to the breeder, he gave me lots of info on care and background of the geokos and helped me pick out a good starter gecko. Im not sure of the name of the color she is, but shes really cool looking! I would post pictures but I don't want to stress her out ever more then she already is.

Now, i've been looking on-line for more care information and all that. Ideal temperature of tank/feeding/shedding/misting.

Does anyone have experience with this gecko?

I've had geckos (and several other types of reptiles) for some time now. I keep my geckos...well, there's one now...in a ten gallon tank (before the original four started out in a 40 gallon tank). I use a small heat lamp and a UVA/UVB bulb. (Though the remaining gecko is a golden gecko and I've heard they don't require the UV bulb...still, I use it.) I use a bedding of eco-earth, I believe it's called because it retains moisture quite well. I mist my gecko several times a day with plain water. I feed him crickets that I've gut loaded every other day. About once a week, I dust the crickets with vitamins. They're pretty low maintenance and can be fun to watch. (I say "can be" because they don't really do anything.) They do like having a place to hide.

I worked at a store that sold the leopard geckos...they are pretty neat looking. I'd love to see pics of your guy/gal.

Yeah, ill take pictures tomorrow. Sexed her, its a female

How often do you feed? And do you have to gut the mealworms as well as the crickets?

I was always told not to put a heat rock/tape for reptiles because they will burn themselves, so should I just use a red light for night-time?

And also, how do you tell the age of them? I forgot the age of my gecko when the guy told me. Shes not a hatchling, but close to one. Her tail isn't much thicker than her neck, so shes farily young...

I have a lot of them-they are outdoors here and I love them- I would take a pic of my colony but they scatter when we come out at night.
I love leezards but only "own" the wild ones.
Like to see a tame one. Need pics.

Nope, no heat rock or tape. As long as your house doesn't get extremely cold at night, you don't have to do anything for them. I let all of my reptiles have a natural day and night cycle...which means lights for heat during the day and nothing at night.

I don't feed mealworms. I've found they don't get digested all that well because of their hard shells, so I stick with crickets and waxworms. But if you were to feed the mealworms (and the same goes for waxworms), you don't have to gut load them, just dust them with a good vitamin powder every few days. (You can overdose on the vitamins, which is why I only do it once a week.

I have no idea how to tell the age of them, sorry.

I could cheerfully give the 50 or so of them that live in my house away.

Cute as they are the poops they smear all over my walls and ceilings isn't.

Enjoy them, they are fascinating to watch.

I've never had a gecko, so know nothing about them. I would get a good book from the library or the pet store and really read up, or there are a lot of websites for reptiles too.

Good luck with your Gecko, we love our Water Dragon. Lizards can be such a riot.
