Injured baby pidgeon-UPDATE

I heard a commotion out in the barn area and ran out to see what was going on. Of course it was my chickens screaming because there was 2 hawks in the trees. Momma hen was just screaming and I couldn't find her babies, so I ran out to the back of the barn and was looking everywhere for them. Of course my actions scared of the hawks. Momma hen then goes and collects her babies from the high grass. I count 1,2,3,and 4. That's all of them. As I was turning to leave I saw a baby pidgeon on the ground. As I was going to get it Bella came charging up from the back pasture and stepped on its wing. I picked it up and brought it to the house and put it in a box with some wildbird seed and water. It has all its feathers but I don't know if it will ever be able to fly again.

I think one of the hawks got its momma.

Well I'm glad that the hawks didn't get any of the chickens.. Sorry about the baby pidgeon getting hurt. I don't have any advice for you on how to keep one.. We usually try to get rid of most of our pidgeons since they carry alot of diseases..

If you have a wild life rescue around you, you could take it there they would know how to splint it and repair the wing(if not damaged to bad)or if you have a bird vet in your area you could get that done(if your willing to pay vet bills on a wild bird).
Or could always turn it into a pet if it can't fly once its wing heals.

This morning when I ook the screen off the box, the baby flew out and across the sunroom. It was time to let baby go.

I took him out to a very shady part of the yard near the woods and placed him on the ground. He turned back and looked at me once and then flew off into the woods.

I will continue to put food and water out at least once a week for a couple of weeks. I hope he makes it.
