Lookie Here! LONG!!!

Look what my mom found. They live in Northern B.C. About an hour north of Prince George B.C.

My mom came across a group of people on the side of the road. They had been staying far enough away from the little guy so that if mom came out of the bush they wouldn't be in danger. He was up and walking around making an awful fuss when the first couple had found him about 4 hours earlier. Since then 2 other couples had taken turns to see if mom would come back for him. He was very friendly and kept trying to come over to the group of people and didn't really care. We figure his mother had been killed. So my mom took him home and tried bottle feeding him but he just wouldn't drink. He was healthy looking though with lots of meat on his bones so that was good. She called out local animal shelter in Smithers B.C., they collect all sorts of animals, from bears to beavers to moose, deer, owls, ect. So they came and got him. He had been the 6th baby moose found that week. Also the 4th that needed to be tube feed because he won't drink. My mom talked to the lady a few days later and the had aquired 2 more within a few days. Seems like an awfully high number but I'm no expert.

he's so tiny and cute I've seen lots of baby moose but none that small and young.

And that does seem strange how many baby moose are being orphaned. I wonder if someones hunting them illegally? I don't think the moose hunts have started yet those are usually in the fall. Or maybe theres some kind of virus or something going around

Does seem odd that Momma would abandon the little one, unless she knew that he had an issue. Unfortunately in the wild, they do not have time to lay around and nurse sick or ill little ones and are often abandoned. I am glad however that he was found and hopefully given an opportunity to thrive and return to the wild.

The place that they took him too has a very good turn around rate. They have almost 100%, so most definetely he will be fine and be able to live his life out.

Awww poor baby! I'm glad your mom saved him. I assume he'll be turned back out into the wild in time?

We get those ALOT around here. . .

Although alot of times somebody will take the calf before the police arrive thinking they can bottlefeed it, it usually dies instead of taking it to the zoo or fish and game We had a neighbor we had to call the police on because she took in twin calves thinking she could bottlefeed them, one of them died and the other barely survived he is now a zoo moose.

I HATE it when people who know NOTHING about moose decide to try and "rescue" them

My mom tried bottle feeding it but we've raised calves, sheep and goats and when they won't take a bottle of milk then you know you have to tube them and my mom just didn't have the clean equipment or she would of done so, just to get him some food plus the animal rescue loves it when they have people who actually know what they are doing can help with the animals.
