Yikes Spiders!! What To Do?

Ok now, Im a pretty fearless woman. Im scared of nothing but a SPIDER! Oh how I hate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We live wayyyyy out in the woods in the country where there are lots and lots of spiders. Most arent venomous. I have seen hundreds of spiders in the house but I have seen 4 Brown Recluse Spiders in my house in the past couple years. 2 of which where on my BED and one on the wall in my bedroom. My husband was bit by a spider in the kitchen about 6 months ago and his head started swelling up...had to go to ER and get all kinds of medicine.

NOW...Last night I was sitting up in my bed watching TV in the dark and I saw a glimse of a HUGE spider crawling across the bed. It was unbeleivable how big his shadow looked crawling across the bed. Normally I really freak and scream and all that good stuff when I see one but I KNEW if I didnt keep my eye on it while screaming to my hubby to turn the light on and kill it, that it would get away. Well when he flipped the light on it was a HUGE Brown Recluse spider. I have never even seen one on TV or the internet as big. I totally freaked out at this point...hyperventilating and all......

I want to know WHAT TO DO about spiders? I talked to an exterminator and she said you cant get rid of spiders. They walk up on their legs and the poison wont hardly affect them. There has got to be a way to get rid of spiders in your house. Does anyone have ANY info about trying to get rid of them????? Im scared to go to sleep!! LOL

Have you tried a bomb...like a bug bomb? That's air born, I know nothing of extermination but I would think there legs couldn't hide them from that!

Moth balls work well - if you can stand the smell.. apparently spiders can't either..

Who know they had little nostrils by their nasty fangs and beady eyes..

ewwwww I haven't seen a recluse here but we get the quarter sized wolf spiders!!!!

the site seerfarm listed has some good ideas. I'd suggest a MILLION of those little spider traps too and keep them at all times. That'll make the spiders go there instead of to you???

Also, the BEST bet HAHA would bet to eliminate all furniture and items in your house because spiders like to get into dark spaces...well if the rooms are open and empty..there's nowhere for them to hide...so they won't LIKE your house

Just get several cats, and keep them indoors. They'll destroy your spider population out of sheer boredom

I have the SAME Brown Recluse problem!!!

Only difference is I've killed 4 just this week! I have no idea where they're coming from, I'm on the second floor! (the garage I think...)

My downstairs neighbor has them bad too, and she's pregnant so she's having the house sprayed next week. I am too, since there's only mesh seperating our garages in the ceiling. They'll just move over here if I don't spray.

They're big, ugly, and have you seen the bites they can leave behind... I made the mistake of googling them.

I've never seen this many spiders in ANY house I've ever lived in, this even beats my dad's wolf spider population in his 1860's farm house!!

Ok so I am not that crazy on spiders either.. Burr get shivery just thinking about one! I woudl get a good strong pesticide and spray the out side of your house down really good. Then have the inside fumigated! After my firends mom got and infection from a spider bit they did that and she was horried by the number of spiders that fell from the eves and siding! You can't even imajine the numbers. With average spiders I would not say this but you don't want to mess with recluse spiders uuuggghhh....

oooo cats are a good idea. I have 3 house cats and the dog...they ALL love spiders! Its so funny to watch them eat them

Maybe some kind of house bird too? You should just overload with pets and then the spiders will be gone and your only issue will be fleas and ticks

*and I thought Brown Recluses were rather small. Never heard of them being huge (unless thats the frightened OMG spider exaggeration????)

Ok here is what I do!
Sticky traps on inside walls near doors or anywhere you think they might be crawling.
SPRAY!...........
I use Ortho Max with BARRIER which means that after the spray dies it still works and anything that crosses it up to a month DIES!!!!!
I spray around the base of my home, windows, doors, garage entrance, exterior. I also spray all indoor exterior doors openings, along the wall on either side of door, behind my washer and dryer, around the walls in my basement.
Basically anywhere they can come in the house.
I never had a problem until we moved to this house and I hate them!
Sticky traps work great can lay flat or make a house with them.
I would spray around the perimeter of your bed underneath if they are climbing up there. That would be to much for me!
Good Luck.

Well, for scorpions, I had friends in NM who had a ranch waaaaaaaaaaaaay out, and used to put the legs of their beds in and empty can, like a coffee can, and put oil in it...if anything climbs up the side to get onto the bed, it falls into the can, and the oil either smothers it , or makes it too slippery to climb out (dunno which).........that sounds like it would work for a ground attack from spiders, but anything that can hang from a web would be immune. Also, who wants to put every furniture leg intp a can of oil?
I know when we bomb the house for fleas, I find lots of dead spiders...so maybe bombing would be the best idea.
Mothball fumes can be toxic...esp if you have cats or dogs around, and the sticky traps can end up on the cat or dog nose, causing trouble.
Good luck...................NEVER walk in bare feet...NEVER walk in a room without lights.........NEVER sleep with your mouth open!

LOL...NO...It really was BIG! I researched them on the net when the hubby got bitten...This was twice the size of ANY I saw on the net.

I cant have animals in the house - hubby wont even let the dogs in when its freezing out!! He is anti-animal in the house. I do have 2 cats though outside.

As far as putting the bed legs into a can or something.....that is a good idea but I have seen lots of the wolf spiders crawling on the ceiling and I wonder if they sometimes slip and fall ....ON THE BED! YIKES!! IDK but Im definatly trying EVERYTHING everyone mentioned!!!

MANDELYN - WOAH!! I read somewhere that if you find a certain amount of the brown recluse in short period time frame then you definatly have an infestation of them instead of just "passer by'ers". Ive sen 4 of them over a few yr. period! Looks like you need to go on the SPIDER DESTROY MISSION too!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!
