What makes this sound?

I have been hearing this noise, and I am starting to worry about my horses since they are turned out at night now. It is a scream, almost like a child screaming and it screams in a sequence, never just once like "scream...Scream....scream...scream...". I thought it might be some kind of bird but tonight I heard it outside my window trotting around. I think it could be a bobcat or some other type of cat. What do you guys think? I could really use some help!

Well, I know that barn owls make a noise like someone screaming.....a pretty bloodcurdling scream. We had one a few years back, and it used to scare the bejabbers out of me taking the dogs out at night. Could it be an owl in a tree nearby, or do you certainly hear it walking around?

I know fox will make a sound like a baby crying. We used to have a "monster" that would come almost everynight around our place that would sound more like lady screaming. It would come up through the corn field and along the pasture almost everynight screaming the entire way, never once bothered the horses. We eventually found out it was a small bobcat.

I just googled it and it said that a red fox can sound like a lady screaming or also an owl. It also mentioned pumas.

Look around your place for tracks. I know from first hand experience that a cougar/panther sounds just like a person screaming. I had one follow me and my horse once.

there are several animals that make screaming sounds that sound like a persons scream. owls, cougars, foxes, bobcats, a fisher will also do a scream and make whopping noises or laughing sort of sounds when its made a kill. Theres just so many animals out there that make screaming sounds I'd say your best bet would be to look for tracks and take some pictures if possible and then lokk up animal tracks online

I have to second the Mountain Lion or Bobcat. We used to hear one screaming down behind my uncles corn field and it would raise the hair on the back of your neck, it was creepy.

Peacock possibility..they sound like a woman getting attacked. Sometimes it seems they are even shouting RAPE.
They are heavy too-you can hear them trotting around.

I second the peacock possibility. When we first moved in here, I thought I was hearing the biggest catfight ever. My mom recognized the sound when she was visiting and told me it was peacocks. This must be breeding season, our neighbor's are making a racket these days.

there's something that makes that scream too around my mom's house. It worried her so much she got a donkey to help protect the horses.

Add the last ) because the link cuts it off. Its sorta like a big foot.

Which that made me laugh. We had similar screaming here a few nights ago in the woods across the road. I was headed to the barn when it sounded. Scared the out of me because it sounded so close. Then while I'm trying to look over and see if I can see anything I see this big dark upright shape moving around up by the front of our house. I freaked and ran into the barn. All I could think of is that we had a big foot or some other creep hanging around. LOL. I'm a big chicken when it comes to stuff like that.

Turns out it was a big creep - my husband. He had come out earlier and was checking a gate he wasn't sure if he had closed earlier that day.
