Anyone want some free igunanas????

We are starting to have an iguana problem. Granted it's better than the gator problem we had a couple years ago. But it's starting to get out of control. They are getting....friendly. I am not happy about it.

Any ways to get rid of them???? (other than shoot them, everyone keeps telling me that!)

Oh boy I just love iggies. Had one as a teen and loved it. LOL I tell you if I were closer I would take a few off your hands!

I saw something about that on the news a while back. Too many iguannas loose in Florida...wish I could help, but some of the people I live with don't like lizzards.

In Mexico they eat them. They taste like chicken.

Michael the iguana was a tail-whipping hissing snapping machine. No way could he be handled safely, especially by my son. One day he had a breakfast of broccoli and fruit and i got home at lunch and checked on him and he wasnt moving, and had a little chunk of broccoli in his mouth so we assumed thats what happened. I hope you didnt take that the wrong way. I love all animals too, but this particular iguana was not the funnest pet we've ever owned, thats for sure...

Lady on my mail route had an iguana. Guido, who turned out to be a girl, who is now Zelda, needed her nails clipped. Granted she got her and she was medium size. She is now GODZILLA. I told her I DON"T DO GREEN, but she is older and I told her I would try. I clipped the toes sticking out of the bars. When she opened to cage to turn her around, she took her out. Zelda bit her, lashed her with her tail and clawed her. I ran out. I couldn't go back to the Post Office with nail marks accross my face. The next day she told me she couldn't believe I just "left her". Again I don't do green, I do fuzzies. I did like to spray her with her vitamin spray and to nod my head at her to agitate her. Then her owner would yell at me to stop irritating her. It was fun.

Male Iguanas can be very vicious if hand raised from babies.....no way would I tackle a wild one! I had a female that was pretty well behaved. They are just such a large lizard that most people aren't prepared for them to get that big and most people don't socialize them and they can leave a good bite on you.

and yes they do barbeque them in many places in the world. I've heard they are delicious.

How big do they get, and how long can they lived for? Are they like parrots, aka, live longer than owner will? Or are they like those skinny little green guys you get at the pet store that don't seem to live over a year. (in my brother care anyways)

According the folks at Animal Diversity Web, the average life span of a well-cared-for pet iguana should be about 20 years.

they can get as big as a full grown human(head to tail) and i think they can live to be 30 or somewhere around there depending on the breed gender etc.

People are getting them as pets, then they get older and bigger and they can't care for them, so they turn them lose and they mate.

Another problem we have too is in the Everglades, people turning loose their snakes, BOAS, ball pythons etc b/c they are getting too big.

I have two lizards, a veiled chameleon and a leopard gecko. I don't care for Iguanas much though. My veiled is quite large, but generally very ameniable.

My advice for you would be to spray them with the hose if possible to drive them away from your yard. Most will retreat from a hard blast of water.

An iguana belonging to a friend of mine used to get out, and loved hiding in her mother's closet - on the fur coats. They had to give it away because it got so very big.

TikiGator, I wish I could help you out... do they at least catch anything? Any pest-control value?

A neighborhood iguana barbecue perhaps? Everybody bring their own iguana and a side dish.

You people down there put up with some weird stuff. My in-laws live on a golf course and they have gators in their back yard!

I can see the TV ad now "Iguana, another white meat"

Vegetarians, they will help clean out a fruit tree nicely for you!

Can you trap them and take them to animal control. I lived in Naples years ago, and don't remember any reptile sanctuaries. Are there any now where you can trap and drop off? I'd tell you to trap and dump in Golden Gate Estates, but that is so built up now........
