Help with snakes!

So most know that I own two Ball Pythons. A male and female.

Well yesterday my darn cat decided to break the glass top on one of my snake's cages. So I had no choice but to temporarily put the snakes together in a single cage until I can get the tank fixed.

Bad idea, I knew it would be. Now my snakes are breeding! I honestly had no interest in breeding the two together as I don't feel experienced enough to make sure my gravid female will be successful in producing viable eggs.

But there they are... stuck together in bliss now for about 3 hours so far. I'm kinda irritated at myself for not thinking BEFORE I put the two together. So I have no one to blame but myself that now I may have to deal with having a gravid female Ball. Great, this is lovely.

Has anyone ever raised snakes before? I have never had a gravid female, hatched eggs... nothing of the sort. I got my first snake as a hatchling and raised it.

Kahn is a little over 5 years old now and in good weight/size. Kismere is big as well and in perfect condition though I am unsure of the exact age as I got her from my grandmother who sadly passed away 2 years ago.

I don't have an incubator for the eggs nor have any idea if I will really need to change anything while she is gravid? Should I feed more, add anything? What do I do? Help me!

I didn't even think that this was the right time of year for them to even be interested in one another. Guess that goes to show ya....

I AM SUCH AN IDIOT!

If you don't want them to breed just throw out the eggs after she lays them. If it's her first clutch she may not realize that she needs to protect them, especially from you.

I'd feel terrible for doing that! That'd be like me killing them... I'm such an animal lover. I guess I could just throw them out....

I didn't mean to upset or offend. If you can find a pet store that would be interested in the babies that would be great! The pet store we go to always has baby snakes, that's where we got our Leucistic Rat Snake. How long does it take for them to hatch? I would think that in your area there would be plenty of pet stores to check with. Good luck finding them a place!

Definitley throw them out as Pythons are a terrible problem for Florida right now, the Burmese Python is now all over any place they can be in FLorida. It is bad when a non-native species is allowed to do that. You are happy with your pets but what if you sell or give the babies to someone who decides as many others have done that do not like them or they are not for them and let them loose. You know what I mean. I would only at the most let her have one. In the wild several would probably not survive anyway that is the law of survival and with your care ALL of them are likely to survive. SO Anyway none of my business but please be responsible as these snakes are even eating endangered animals in Florida.

Oh its ok I wasn't offended.

From what I've read around 55-60 days after being laid? I'm not really sure. I've wanted to try my hand at rearing ball pythons but wanted it to happen when I was fully ready for it. Which isn't right now. I just know basic things in all honesty. Boy o boy. Wouldn't it be neat to hatch snakes!

I'm going to find some pet shops around here, which aren't many, to see what they have to say. It's unlikely that any of them will be much help. But it's worth a shot I guess.

Freedomchrist- That would be absolutely wonderful! I'm not even sure if this will even be successful or not as far as her getting el prego. I kinda hope it fails, but then again it would be neat to hatch a clutch of baby ball pythons. They are so cute when they are little.

Every article I've found so far has said that they breed their snakes in late winter! Well, I hate to tell these two... but it's definitely not winter here! As soon as I can get another glass peice for my tank they are being separated I know that much. Silly snakes.

Hi:

This is Al (Tallyho's partner), AKA "Viperkeeper" on YouTube.

There is no good reason to kill the offspring, since they can be hatched by a local snakes person and sold or given to somebody who likes BP's, which by the way are very popular pets.

Feel free to contact me directly and I'll put you in touch with someone local to help you out.

Cheers!
Al
