Wild visitors

I told you that asking me for photos would result in an overload. Here are some of the critters that come visit. They are all wild.

Female king parrot

Male king parrot

Pale headed rosella (another sort of parrot)

Roos that eat all my grass.

A little carpet snake my son fell in love with.

Cool

Why not just let a barking dog chase the roos off.
But better keep on a leash so it doesnt get its butt beat, or head bashed in. I wish I could complain that Roos were eating my pasture. would love to be in Aussie land with ya. Thanks for sharing the pics

Oh my godness the carpet python is cute, the birds are beautiful and the Roos are cute to. I would so love to stay in Australia for a few months or more I love the accents to. You are so lucky. Except for the poisionous things.

I forgot to ask, does Australia get winters, like snow and cold? I have a sort of bet on that. I hope I am right.

Yes, we are coming into winter now. Whilst I live in the subtropics and don't get snow it does snow down south. We have quite large ski fields.

That is neat, I bet it is beautiful there. And thanks, I was right except for the snow part. I didn't think Australia got snow.

Thats so not fair, do you know how much I paid for my rosella and it wasn't a pale headed either. I want them to live in my backyard for free!!!!!Oh well I don't have the money to move to aussie land so I guess I have to pay good bucks for my birds

How neet is that to have parrots and roo's right in your back yard. Can do with out the snake even if it isn't poisionous! Thanks. Love the pictures!!

I often wonder what it would be like to wake up and see parrots in my yard. Do we have any in the states that you don't? We have white tailed deer, ground hogs and rabbits eating our plants instead of kangaroos. I see red tailed hawks, blue jays and robins everyday.

I LOVE the Butcher birds........their song is the coolest I've ever heard.....and I had them eating out of my hand! Would love to have one as a pet, but I supposed that would be cruel.
The pics are amazing......also, to see the huge white cockatoos(?) in flight is awesome

Beautiful pictures!! It actually made me a little homesick for a minute! There is nothing like waking up to all that beautiful wildlife. Do you live close in to town, or out in the country? I really wanted a koala for a pet when I lived there.

You have lots of animals there that we don't have. I don't know a lot of your birds.

We have butcher birds, in fact I was listening to one this afternoon. We also have magpies and peewees. You are welcome to all the peewees. There is one which attacks its reflection in my glass bedroom doors everyday. They are not one of my favorite birds.

I have a photo of a flock of corellas that took up feeding in our side paddock when we lived out west. Turned the place white.

We live an hour and a half to anywhere. It makes things like shopping a full day trip but is worth it for the peace and wildlife.

As cute as koalas look unless tamed they are a fearsome animal. They will rip you apart with their very large claws or bite you. The only safe way to pick up a wild koala is to grab its front legs and hold them up whilst grabbing its ears and holding it facing out away from your body.

Kidsmum, I have a long scar down my arm from a koala, I thought it was asleep and decided to pet it, it did NOT appreciate the attention! I was 10, what can I say? It got really nasty and infected, but I still really wanted a pet koala!

The birds look like seagulls almost. they do the same thing to fields around here. You can't see the ground there are so many birds.

So it's kind of like picking up a cranky toddler I swear my son acts like this EVERY time he has to get dressed. Mornings are such fun

A few weeks back I watched a documentry on your birds. I was amazed at how the cockatoos are a lot like our seaguls....one big nuisance. Poor farmers . And the Parakets WOW is it nice to see them flying free and all, I'm not a fan of keeping birds in cages . PLEASE keep the pictures coming.

They're all so beautiful! I know they probably often seem like pests to you, eating all your grass and destroying crops and all, but to me, they're just so unusual and lovely. Can't believe the roos come up close like that - must be like our deer, eating my mother's rose bushes! More picture, please

I was amused to learn, recently, that 'cockatoo' means 'big pest', 'cockatiel' means 'little pest', and 'budgerigar' comes from a word meaning 'good eating' or 'good meat' (hope I got those right ) in the Aboriginal language - it certainly describes the havoc those little guys wreak! To echo Paso_lover's sentiments, an Australian friend of ours wanted to know, a little while ago, why I want a big cockatoo so badly - asked why I don't just buy a box of rats and locusts! I guess to an Australian farmer it would be, truly, like adopting one of our nasty gulls! From this side of the pond, though, they do look very cool
