Talking Welcome to the world Sadie!

Well Rhea has been expecting for a while now and tonight she gave us a wonderful gift, a beautiful "little" (well not so little) girl!

I heard her in her cage and went and checked on her and I was able to watch the whole delivery from the second contraction on! She took it like a champ and her maternal instincts kicked in 100%.

The new little one is healthy and active and will be with us for the rest of her life. She is a tri-color, mostly black & white with just a touch of red on her right side.

She doesn't have a name yet so if feel free to throw some suggestions out there.

In these pictures she is about 2 hours old.

So without further adu here is Rhea and her daughter...

And just because Rhea is a maiden I had to add a caption in this one

I second Sirita's post - that baby looks half-grown already!

And I still think Rhea sounds like a hoity-toity brand of chocolate so I'd name the kiddo something tasty-sounding. Like Cookie, or Oreo, or Fudgy, etc

Yup guinea pigs come out fully formed, eyes open, walking & talking! They can eat solid foods within an hour of birth, but they still nurse until 3 to 4 weeks.

On average they have between 2 - 3 babies but my male and her bonded cage mate (who has been moved into a different cage) is 8 years old as of Jan 2008 so in guinea pig years he is a very old man! I really didn't even think his boys where swimming any more, so the fact that she had one is amazing all on its own. I'm so happy that it's a little female as she will spend her days with us.

What a cutie, but the look on her face in the first photo cracked me up...Like, What am I suppose to do with this Mom?

Well we had our first cuddle this morning!
She is a talker, just tiny little peeps and at this age they are soft as silk.
Rhea is being a great Mom and the little one is strong and healthy.
I'm just proud as punch!
