Ooops, "designer" fish! (dial-up beware)

So I'm waiting on my little Johannii's to mature, and as they begin to color up, I realize... they're only half. That left me playing the "who's your daddy" game between the different canidates.

This, is the mother. Boring, nothing fancy, but that's how the females are.

This, should have been the father...

This is what I got...

Too much purple...

Too much yellow...

Seems they got the blue head mask, and that's about it...

And this, "Hongi" is who I decided the dad is... He'll explain the purple and yellow coloring, though keeping the head mask and black points...

None of the color combinations are charactistic of the male Johannii, only the pattern. Even as submissive with minimal coloring, male Johannii look like this... The babies only got half of the coloring and markings.

Shame on you, you indiscriminate fish breeder.

Shame on you Mandy for cross breeding your fish!

They are still pretty neat looking! You take great pictures.

You irresponsible back yard breeder you!

Just kidding, of course! They certainly as beautiful, even if they're not purebred.

I know! I'm so bad.

Kelly, when they fade out to a submissive color they turn yellow, just like the mom only with black points and a light face mask.

It's really quite strange. Must be a hybrid thing.

Very pretty fish, no matter what they are.
They also make me miss not having a tank right now.
