Animal Oddities

I thought this would make for an intersting thread! With all of us being animal lovers I'm sure we've all seen our fair share of critters. My question for you is have you ever had the pleasure of meeting/owning one of mother nature's "mistakes?" I luckily have! I've posted a picture of one, a cow of course! This cow is from one of the places I work at, she was born with droopy ears! She's the cutest thing though, nice & quiet and milks quite a bit. Another animal oddity I've seen are cats with extra toes, like 9 on each foot! So I invite you to post a story or better yet a pic of some odd animals you've seen!

#801, Droopy Ears

Oh, my Sam, she is the cutest!

I've had polydactyl cats in the past, and have a polydactyl dog now. She has 3 dew claws on each back and 2 on each front. Sorry, no pictures.

Sorry, no pics, but we had a hermaphrodite goat. Called it a she and her for a long time, until it decided it was a "he". Smelled like a "he", too!

Range, not sure if I'd want to see pics of "it!" I had the pleasure of owning an "it" rabbit. Being in the breeding business I wasn't sure whether to put "it" in with a buck or a doe so I sold "it" as a pet to a good home.

I had a cat 20 years ago that was born at a barn I worked at.
She was born with a left shoulder, a small stump on the shoulder with one toe attached to the stump.

I brought her home, her poor mom took care of her for 6 months. She was semi-feral, but managed to become a very loving inside kitty. She stayed very mistrustful of strangers though.

Wish I could find a picture of her, sigh.

I saw a hermaphrodite beagle once... S/He was weird. No pics.

I used to work with a 40 pound cat. I will try to get pics of him if I can. His name is Hemmingway, and yep, he's Polydactyl, too.

When I was a kid, we had a kitten who was born with 2 faces. Well, she had 2 ears, 2 eyes, 2 noses and 2 mouths... Kitty didn't live very long.

Currently, here at the ranch, there is a bull (angus maybe?) that is running around here who is freakishly endowed. I've never seen anything like it. His business is just inches from the ground when it's sheathed! We have a lot of fun, but tasteless, names for him! I could get a pic... Would that be weird?

I have a polydactyl cat right now (Radar). I'll try to get some pics of his mittens to show you!

A guy I know who feeds deer has an "earless" doe that has been coming in for 9 years. He said she just has teeny little white cups for ears.

Well I don't have pics of this, but my friend used to own a filly that was born with an extra leg! An ENTIRE leg was formed right next to her hind right leg. It was useless though, it couldn't function properly, but it didn't hinder her any bit. That was probably the strangest thing I have ever seen, at first I could NOT get over the fact that she had an estra leg dangling! She was a lovely filly, she was part arab, and she was a light dun, but that leg! My friend sold her to a man who had a farm with "Animal Oddities". He assured her a good home, and he has a big ranch somewhere (I forget) but all his odd critter friends live with him, and it's sort of like a "weird animal petting zoo".

I used to have a thoroughbred with horns. He had two on his forhead, and they stuck up about half and inch. They were covered with hair though, so not that visible unless I had him braided for shows! He was 3 when I bought him, and I sold him at 5 to be a hunter in Vancouver.

Luckily the horns were the only sign of him being a devil horse!

I'm going to check Bam Bam for those horns tonight.
The way he acts I'm betting he's got them too.

One of our best cows was "Walleye". her eyes bugged out and looked in opposite directions. She also had a heart condition which caused her to have a perpetual bloated look to her. Absolutely immense when she was pregnant. She lived to be in her 30's and had a nice big bull calf every year for the 25 years we had her. She was so ugly we were kind of ashamed for people to see her but we loved her. She was an excellent cow. Of course being walleyed she couldn't see very well so she didn't get out too often. But when I did have to get her back in, I'd have to go kinda slow. She'd run along the fence and then stop every once in a while with her head cocked to one side to look for the opening. It was pretty darn cute and I loved her.

I had a morgan with a club foot. It didn't slow him down any though! I also had a dog with 3 and a half legs. We called her pitty paw.
