Nope, they're not venomous and are actually rather docile. They may look like a rattler, but that's all defensive mimicry.

What a beauty!

yes they ARE venomous.

however they are rear fanged just like eastern and southern hoggies and their venom delivery system is very crappy. they have to litterly chew an chew on you in order to get anything in you an even if they do manage to do so their venom is geared toward amphibians not mamals.

There is always a risk when handling any venomous animal of having an allergic reaction to the venom espiclay if you have any sensitivity. These guys are ranked with bee's so generally unless your alergic to bees they don't bother you an you just geta lil mild icthy irritation to the area your bitten.

FYI, their mouths do not open very wide so they have to actually have like the end of your finger like they are eating it in order to even touch you with those rear fangs.

I love hognose snakes. Of all the snakes, they are one of the cutest! Yes, they have venom, but it's not usually dangerous to humans, and they are not prone to bite what they can't eat. They also have the fascinating behavior or playing dead when threatened. Good mousers, too.

lol yep, the playing dead is a great defense an omg they put off a musk that makes them SMELL dead to when they do it lol! This lil guy here has yet to play dead but you would think he was apuff adder the way he huffs an puffs an acts when he feels froggy haha.
