When a pigmy goat passes away

I have got 5 pigmy goats who I love very much, one of them Maizzy (she is 18 months old) fractured her leg over the weekend, she has a cast on her leg to try and heal the fracture, if this doesn't work then it saddens me to say this that she may have to be put to sleep. I really don't want to lose my little girl but I know it would be for the best in the end. As this is the first time I have had goats I am not really sure what happens once she has been put to sleep, i would like to have her cremated and her ashes scattered, can anyone tell me is this is something you can do for pigmy goats?

Most vets will offer those services ask, it shouldn't be much if any more than for a large dog.

As for the brake, be optimistic. She's young and breaks heal quite well with goats. The last one here that broke her leg we splinted with PVC pipe ,diapers and vet wrap. I have no idea now which doe that was she healed so well. The one thing I know to be an issue though is if she had a compound fracture, did the bone break through the skin? If so then I would be guarded about the outcome but with luck and good antibiotics she could be fine. I do know goats who have had compound fractures and healed well. Amputation is also a consideration a 3 legged goat is no worse than a 3 legged do, they get along just fine.

Karen hit the nail on the head...don't give up on her yet!! Goats are tough critters and she is young...just give her time to heal and keep faith. But to answer your question, I would imagine that your vet could get you set up with cremation services...they'll cremate anything as long as you're willing to pay for it.
