The economy and weather had many farmers short on hay and money. In spite of that, many farmers said blessings of thanks on Thanksgiving.
There was an empty stall on many farms. The Lord went from farm to farm to ask if the stall could be used for the Baby Jesus as He would soon be coming for another Christmas....
"Of course Lord, even though I have nothing left to spare, it is filled with fresh hay and clean water and a soft place to stay. I left it empty, so it is ready for you."
Farm after farm, this is what the Lord heard.
The Lord was sad by the response.
Then he went to a farm and asked if there was room for the Baby Jesus.
The farmer wrang hands that were wore from hard work. A sad grimace covered the farmer's face and eyes stared at the ground for the farmer could not look upon the Lord. A slow careful responce was spoken tearfully. "I am so sorry Lord. There is no room for Baby Jesus."
A long silence came over the farm.
The farmer then added, "I can explain. I had the stall ready for you. There was fresh hay and clean water and a soft bed ready for you. Then the other day as I was driving down the road, I saw a starving horse. Thin and thirsty and desperately in need of a warm soft bed."
The farmer looked up at the Lord with a tear covered face.
"I used your bed for that horse."
The Lord smiled and wiped the tears from the farmer's cheeks.
"I have found the stall that will be richly blessed with the presence of the Baby Jesus this year....for you have shown mercy to one of my lowly hurting creatures. I am well pleased."
Then the farmer looked to where he heard a noise in the distance. The people of the church were coming with gifts...blankets for the horse.....Medicine and special feed too; there was even food and gifts for the farmer and for all who resided on the farm - every human and creature on the farm was greatly blessed that Thanksgiving morn.
The farmer turned back to where the Lord had been and all that was there was the thin horse. The horse reared up onto its hind legs and front hooves danced in the air as if waving to the sky. A loud nicker echoed across the farm of thanks.
It was a blessed Thanksgiving indeed.

This year the needs are greater.
Many rescues and individuals have been taking in needy horses and critters that they cannot afford, but that they cannot afford not to take. I know of many more who have given blankets, feed, money to help with the huge costs.
Please say a word of thanks to the rescue groups and helping individuals - please if you can, contribute to them (those helping human and creature).
To those who have given from the heart....the tears are many as you struggle to care for the sick and hurting on earth; but, know that the greatest blessings of the Baby Jesus have come to reside with you, so you will be rich in glory.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving and stall filled by the Baby Jesus.

If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of
compassion and pity,
you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." -St. Francis of Assisi-
Now I know why my friend sent me this on thanksgiving morning, some how she knew i was going to need it.
I feel as tho I am blessed this day, I have a rescue and take in horses that are going to be sold at auction.
"No room at the inn" I always say, until the next horse or dog crosses my path.
Yes be thankful that is what this day is all about. and help :the dog, or horse rescue in your area. even if it is a coupon or one bag of dog food, cat food, or horse food. they do need it,
and thank you Peter-John for being you, you are a very special person
