Can Bunny go in with Guinea Pig? Heeeeeeeeeeere's Lola!

Our BO went to the auction and came home with 4 baby bunnies, they are some type of dwarf but look like lion heads. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute.

We have a huge cage already set up with Lucy and Lacy, I was just wondering they could go together.

We had a bunny and guinea pig who lived together. They were best friends. They were both neutered though, I am not sure if that made a difference.

I had a friend who raised bunnies and guinea pigs and they both lived very happily together. They don't really notice a difference, they think they are all the same.

And when it gets cold and you see the snugglepile.....SO cute.

Our bunny and GP lived together too...did great...

Angie (the bunny - a California buck) would kick Charlie (the male GP) so Charlie would squeal and I would know Ang wanted food....Ang also gave Charlie baths. He would hold him down and lick him clean - Charlie hated that, but he loved to sit on Angie's head between his ears...

Best buddies....

You have to be careful as some guinea pigs carry a bacteria (Pasturella) that can make your bunny VERY sick (upper respiratyor infection - "Snuffles") and the GP wont show any signs.

Also, the bunny can get a lot bigger than your GP and possibly injure them, I had a rabit and GP live together until my bunny started humping the GP, now they live seperately.

I've just started keeping guinea pigs in the past few months and have been reading everything I can get my hands on...most books/articles discourage putting them together, since one accidental kick from the rabbit can break bones, and as smaloney mentioned there are bacteria one animal may carry with no problems while it proves to be lethal for the other. They also have slightly different dietary requirements - while it seems rabbits do fine on guinea pig food, it's not the 'best' for them.

I'm no expert and still filtering through all the biased stuff I'm reading, there seems to be plenty of people who have kept them together with no problems. There is SOME risk of things going badly, but then again I'm keeping three GP boars and risking the odd chance that they may not get along when they're older. Just use good judgement and all should be well

they can, and ive had many bunny-guinea pairs who were inseparable. however it depends on their temperaments. sometimes the bunny, once full grown will start to bully the guinea pig, or the other way around.
since the bunnies are babies, i would give it a shot and hope for the best, but keep an eye on things and make sure nobody is getting pushed around or once the bunnies are full grown and can overpower the guinea pigs, make sure they arent keep the guineas away from the food and water.

Lola is a Dwarf Bunny and Lucy and Lacy are very large Pigs. Nicole is also doing research, we also checked with the local Humane Society and they said they should be fine.

Thanks for all the help.

Many people do, but as a guinea pig rescue and an LVT at a vet clinic we do not recommend it.

Here is an article on it and many shelters put them together also. They are in together, under a watchful eye and are now sleeping together.

very cute yes they can go together i used to keep our guinea pigs and bunnies together in the same cage. as long as the bunnies are the same size or smaller than the guinea pigs or else they could accidentally hurt them.

It's not good to keep bunnies together after they are 8-10 weeks old.One will always be dominate and eat way more than the others.

When I use to show rabbits and had a whole bunch of babies I would seperate them all at 10 weeks old.

Sometimes they fight..sometimes they dont.
