Baby sparrow

We had 250 bales of hay delivered yesterday, yeah! In throwing them off the trailer found a nest of 2 sparrow chicks. One chick was already dead(squashed) but the other chick was very vocal. Placed it on a heating pad and I have been feeding it with a small syringe. It has really started to strengthen and wants fed constantly! I just didn't think that birds raised babies this late in the season in northern climates. Silly mommy bird.

The trick with baby birds is making sure the food goes far enough back to avoid the wind pipe at the back of the tounge. Stupid place to put an air hole if you ask me, as getting food in it will cause pneumonia.

It's good you're using a syringe, just take advantage of the mouth being wide open for food to place it back far enough, and you'll have yourself a fledgling in no time.

I can now kind of drop the food into its gaping mouth. Baby is now completely feathered with little wispy feathers here and there. It seems smaller than other sparrows but otherwise healthy and taking tiny attempts at flights. I am hoping to eventually introduce it to the barn birds since there is quite a flock of sparrows that live in the rafters (no barn cats).
