Should I take a freebie GP???

Ok I have a guinea pig (which GLD tells me is male) and he's 5yrs old. We have just been offered another one ... don't know how old don't know what sex... I kind of assume that separate cages are a must but... do they carry any types of diseases that I should quarantine?? How close together should I put the cages(IF I take the 2nd one) The old man is in a glass cage and I guess the new one is a "carry" type mesh. I haven't seen it yet but I will before I say yes. The kids have been playing with it for an hour now. They say the second cage is big enough for both...

What do you guinea pig experts say?? (should I post a pic???)

Silly question about the pics! But GP's are social animals. if they are both the same sex and get along, you will be ok with 1 cage. If both are dominant types, they probably will need separate cages. You could introduce them and see how they interact before you make a decision. Good luck! I love GP's.

YES, new pigs should be quarantined for at least 2 weeks and 30 days is even better. They should be examined by a vet for any Upper respiratory disease and any external parasites. Both of which are common and can flare up with the stress of coming to a new home. www.guinealynx.com has fantastic information concerning pigs, introductions and disease.
